That may well be true, but I'm sure there are people who build all their rolling stock from kits who say the same thing about RTR rolling stock. Certainly, "value for money" is always subjective. To look at it one way, if you cost up how long it takes to build something like a Peco Craftsman kit, even at legal minimum wage and for the typical modeller's skill level, you're into several hundred pounds of "labour costs" for a single structure. Most people do it for fun of course, so that isn't a relevant concern for the majority. Speaking personally, I'm quite certain I don't have the skills to build anything that would look as good as, for example, the wooden engine shed - either from a commercial kit or scratch built, so for me, they have an appeal.
Phil Parker
40 minutes ago, MikeB said: Is it just me, or are the prices of the Scenecraft items even more excessive? The ones which have been reintroduced seem to cost a lot more than when they were in the range not that many years ago. Some of the designs seem rather crude and despite their ready to plant nature, even the old Dapol kits, never mind the the various options from the plastic, wood or card model building specialists, all seem to offer much better value for money and are much easier to modify to create something unique. Producing ready to use resin buildings is very expensive. Your moulds won't last very long and event model is hand finished and painted. Looking at the work involved, I'm amazed they are that cheap. If you want to save money, Pendon buildings cost next to nothing to make... 6 5
QuoitsPlayer
The RES and EWS 90s are great to go with Hornby's forthcoming Mk4s for those modelling the ECML south of Leeds and don't want a 91. I love the working BSI couplers will make a great addition to the DMU fleet and allow more realistic couplers than tension locks. The seaside shelter is similar to the Edwardian shelters on West Cliff in Whitby - somehow rule 1 will apply and at least 1 will turn up in a future model memorial garden/park as I walked past the real things for years. Lovely selection Bachmann 👌 Edited May 4, 2022 by QuoitsPlayer Error in typing.
RMweb Premium Downer Posted May 4, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 4, 2022 Been waiting for a crimson-cream inspection saloon since the model first came out, but the latest price - around £75 after discount - does seem a touch prohibitive. I know - it’s my choice….
surfsup
I'm still trying to hold off purchasing a 90, though the RES and EWS Examples do look rather good. I wonder if the RES 90 will lead to a reintroduction of the Super BGs? I'm still a little surprised and disappointed that there's been no further 158 releases though, it's been 4 years since the last ones were announced - id have expected those to be something of a goldmine for Bachmann given the wide range of regions and liveries the class have carried. But, I'm pleased about those working BSI couplings though - I will certainly be having a few packs of those!
shunny
Looks like new 90 probably been planned for a while as due May/June along with the rest of previous models but very happy with the liveries definitely getting an Freightliner orange and EWS

Global
Hopefully the INTERCITY Saloon is a pre production model as they appear to have done the white stripe in executive light grey? Or did this carry a different version at some point - the photo on Flickr from 1993 looks to be white as would be normal.

I don’t have any overhead wires and am up to 6 class 90s so far….. go on you know you want to….. The lapse in time between the first 90s and what has been an excellent selection of them I expect could be part of a troubleshooting/manufacturing engineering exercise, where a small is batch is made at product launch then they learn and adapt and then make a big batch? We saw 3 90s to begin with. This year there have been about 10 IIRC. I think they arrived just before the 158s, although the 90s did have the bogie issue that needed correction but in the case of the 158, just because they were excellent when they arrived it doesn't mean they were excellent to make. Maybe they are doing some work on the 158/9 then we get a big batch of them? Edited May 4, 2022 by TomScrut
Tallpaul69
Hi All, I know this is only a 3month set of announcements, but I am in agreement with several contributors in being completely underwhelmed by what is on offer! They might at least have offered ONE 00 steamer or ONE 00 Diesel (apart from the shunters), for one area of the country in some era or other! Never mind, the wallet can catch its breath in anticipation of all the goodies from the new kids on the block. Keep smiling? Cheers Paul

Cheers Paul Personally I feel that Bachmann have made a good job and kept this upbeat considering all the events which are currently happening, China’s output is decimated at present with factories not been able to give ETA’s of completion time, that’s if you can actually get hold of someone, shipping is dreadful both out of China and then here in the UK and finally the lack of certain raw materials due to the Ukraine conflict makes the whole supply chain really uncertain. I am sure they have loads in planning and will be equally frustrated that they cannot announce due to their policy, but credit due for sticking to this 👍 Edited May 4, 2022 by younGGuns7 Spelling as always 4
RMweb Gold slow8dirty Posted May 4, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 4, 2022 Reckon Bachmann are missing a trick by not offering a budget version of 08031 🤪 Oh well, guess I'll have to buck the nothing for me trend and order the pricey version they've gone with 😉 1 1
RMweb Gold checkrail Posted May 4, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 4, 2022 None of those box-like things on wheels in their orange, blue or red coats - let alone the assortment of dismal looking huts and sheds - look anything like a Bird-series Bulldog, so no money of mine will be going to Bachmann this season.
GordonC
I'm generally happy with the announcement, the RES 90 is appealing and there are plenty other things due in the pipeline soon so loads to buy. I'm a bit surprised Bachmann have not made more disk headcode BR Blue Class 40s or another run of Freightliner FGA/FFAs ... especially the inners have long since disappeared and a different selection of containers would be good

I thought I was reading and looking at some descriptive text and some very helpful illustrations of Bachmann's latest programme of model releases. I'll be the first to admit that some of it was of no relevance to my model railway interests but I still read all of it, looked carefully at all the building illustrations, and ticked 'thanks' to AY for providing it all (which obviously involved him in a lot of work). But that was what it was - simply an announcement with some words and loads of pics. 4 2

Yes, but I wonder if they were let down once they had their ducks in a row for the Feb announcement. There are some things for July in there that were July from the day of the announcement IIRC which got some comments at the time. For all we know they could have been told once they had already set things in motion for the first announcement.
