Yeah Rob, it does seem ages since I started modelling that stern trawler. But we're planning to get straight back to Bovey Quay the minute the diorama is ready for SWAG. The plan is for Bovey Quay to be very building intense, as there lies my main interest. Basically a single line running along the sea front, lots of opportunity for various shops, a cafe, pub and a large warehouse/goods shed for loading and unloading china clay to ships moored in the harbour. Plus a large residential area on higher ground based on North Hill in Minehead. Therefore, breaking with my traditional procedure, I plan to build most of the structures loose, prior to building any baseboards. This will give me a clearer idea of how it all fits together and how much room it will all take. Edited September 18, 2023 by Gedward 8 2 1
wiggoforgold
I have found that getting the structurea done at an early stage is very helpful to the design process. Alex 1
RMweb Premium Gedward Posted February 21 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 21 It's been a while since my last post on here. Introducing the first of many buildings on Bovey Quay. Starting with a simple card mock up of the 'Golden Cod' loosely based on the 'Fat Pig' in Exeter and the 'Golden Fleece' in York. I hear they serve some very decent cask ales and apparently the fish & chips is pretty damn good too. Can't wait for it to open! 16

RMweb Premium Gedward Posted March 2 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 2 These past couple of weeks we've been building brick walls. Right now laying the header bricks in the window openings. Then will make a start on the sash window frames, that should be fun. 10 4

RMweb Premium Gedward Posted March 2 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 2 These are the tools I used to scribe all the main brickwork. The window headers are bricks I cast myself. 4 3
RMweb Premium Gedward Posted March 20 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 20 I finally managed to find some old sash frames in a reclamation yard. All glazed and ready for installation. 12
RMweb Premium Gedward Posted March 24 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 24 (edited) No decent shopfront would be complete without corbels and pilasters. Starting with a master carved from wax. Then plaster copies from a silicone mold. Now just need three more for the set. Quite pleased with how it turned out though. RMweb Premium Gedward Posted April 24 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 24 THE GOLDEN COD name because... Bovey Quay is a fishing port like Brixham. And it's a play on the 'Golden Fleece' pub in York and the 'Fat Pig' in Exeter. But I realised from the start that it could be confused with being a fish and chip shop or even a Chinese restaurant. So I'm unsure whether or not I should change it. Answers on a postcard. 2
