FIA planning new F1 race-management structure after Abu Dhabi controversy.

Good, it's nice to hear they are at least looking at making changes.

IMO Masi (or replacement) needs to be the 'head' of a team who manage the race. I'm sure it's possible to still have the quick reactions needed to deploy safety measures (eg, Safety Car) with a Team in charge. However it would reduce the pressure on the Race Directors sholders.

Yes, 3 inc Race Director would be the ideal number, and go with a quick majority.

BBC News - Michael Masi: FIA may end spell as race director after Abu Dhabi controversy

Basically the same meat, different side dishes, but a little clearer on possibilities.

Charlie Whiting managed to do the job properly. The FIA allowed Masi to be put in a position that he couldn't handle. He should be moved elsewhere in their organization and the rules changed for clarity. The teams should not be allowed to speak to and influence the race officials during the race, which if the officials are doing their job properly shouldn't be necessary anyway. And finally, C Horner should be permanently gagged.

The whole thing stinks of incompetence being rewarded (which we see in so many places these days). Perhaps the FIA bods are worried that setting a precedent for the Race Director actually being good at their job might be too dangerous for their own positions…

I'm afraid that, rather like Boris's parties and Sue Gray, there hasn't been much actual news about the FIA and F1 since the chequered flag of the last race. Lots of promises of a report and everyone's ideas about who should be blamed and why, but it's all typical between-the-seasons hypothesis from a meejah desperate to keep their pot boiling.

Wake me when something happens - or Lewis surfaces with a decision about his future.

Not what I was expecting from someone that wants to drive the Merc.

Nyck de Vries comments on the possibility of replacing Hamilton.

I think he’s just diplomatically not saying he’s interested and assuring his current team he’s focused on them not hoping to jump out ;) After them choosing George over their test driver in 2020 you can make yourself look like second or third choice if you’re not picked after all. However if you weren’t ‘in the frame’ by your choice . . . ;)

No decision yet over outcome of Abu Dhabi restart investigation – FIA.

Pitpass notes that Bayer's on-record comments to a journo are premature, to say the least. This looks like factionism within the FIA hierarchy, which the sport needs like square wheels.

It could be that the outcome of the Abu Dhabi restart investigation doesn't suit the FIA. They might have a lot of stuff to sweep under the carpet...

I really cant see them doing that. Also I think Toto and Lewis accepted that Max and Red Bull did nothing wrong, other than gloat.

As in "Oh look!  Verstappen spun his car on the restart and Hamilton won after all"?  :jester:

Ok, it's not F1, but just been watching the climax of the Cyclo-cross World Championship on BBC ("red button").

A familiar scenario - a British guy way out in front of a chasing Dutchman in second place, lap after lap.  Don't say I wasn't concerned that history might repeat and a "freak" result just happen...

Thankfully, no interventions and congratulations to Tom Pidcock on a well deserved win and the first Briton to earn the rainbow jersey!

Poll – Should FIA world championship races be allowed to finish under Safety Car?

For my personal opinion, I feel it should be aloud to finish under a Safety Car for three reasons.

A, the driver thus far has earned the win.

B, If the race is extended, then Cars may run out, or not have the required fuel for scrutiny .

C, Another accident, or puncture from debris could occur, meaning another Safety Car period.
