RMweb Premium ELTEL Posted October 17, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 17, 2021 I hope that a fellow model railway modeller puts together a video of the exhibition as there seems to be some a fine selection of layouts on show. RMweb Gold snitchthebudgie Posted October 17, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 17, 2021 Visited this afternoon for 45 minutes or so. Enough time to see everything, and chat to a few people that I knew. As always a good show and some excellent layouts. My only criticism was not the show, but the punters. When there are numerous signs politely requesting mask wearing when moving around the hall, why are so many people ignoring it? I'm sure most of them weren't exempt, just rude and bl**dy minded! Still, it was great to get back to a show after 18 months or so, but I shall be selective which ones I go to this autumn. 1
RMweb Gold bcnPete Posted October 17, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 17, 2021 (edited) Just back home - as always, a show worth the drive down from London. Even better, this year I parked in the adjacent Tesco’s and recharged my car during the two hours spent at the show A nice range of layouts in scales and different eras so something for everyone. Good to chat with the 2mmFS peeps, Kevin from Coastal DCC and also finally meet Dave with his superb Sherton Abbas layout with the new infill piece. Thanks to Adrian and the Uckfield MRC team for organising another good show and allowing the chance to meet and speak with real people after all this time again A few pics from me (shot with iPhone 12)… Thanks, Pete Edited October 17, 2021 by bcnPete Typo 12
PenrithBeacon
I decided that to avoid the crowds I would arrive after 2 on the assumption that many people would be going home for the Sunday roast. Worked sort of. I got in, mask on, and immediately my glasses fogged up and I started to bump into people. Ok, take the mask off. Then I noticed that many others had done much the same. Perhaps the same problem afflicts contact lens users; heyho. As ever the layouts were superb ( I was particularly taken by the EM Cambrian layout), traders were fine but the halls were hot and humid. I thought ventilation was important in these times? I lasted about an hour, but couldn't cope beyond that. A pity, it's a brilliant show, just needs a different venue.

RMweb Premium Northroader Posted October 17, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 17, 2021 On several previous occasions, I’ve looked at the show notice and fancied it, this time, seeing Sherton Abbas and Belmullet were featured, I decided it was a must, and did the trip. Excellent show, most enjoyable, glad I was there to see it all.

Excellent show, most enjoyable, glad I was there to see it all. I can see that Bellmullet would appeal to you! There was a very nice MGWR 4-4-0, along with other charming stock, including one of those GSWR 6-wheel brake thirds with duckets and birdcage that I was gushing about some months back. if it wasn't for Sherton Abbas and Modbury, which are both utterly exquisite, Bellmullet would have been my best-in-show. This was only the second time I've been - the previous time having been in 2019 - and on both occasions the standard has been very high. One other I was especially taken with was the Padstow section of Wadebridge and Padstow - the scenic effect of the single line looping round over the bridge and along the bank of the Camel was marvellous, even if one had to crouch down to get one's eye-level down to rail level. (The higher-mounted layouts had child-stands provided but there are some layouts which ought to be provided with prie-dieux so that one could kneel to worship the modelling from an appropriate angle.) 3 1
MartinM
Yet again a very good show, good to see all the windows and doors were open to provide ventilation, even if it made the venue a little drafty at times. The gangways looked a little wider than normal too that helped. Out side seating for catering and contactless payments all helped and was a first for Uckfield.... All reasonable steps seemed to have been taken a good show and it looks like the way forward for exhibitions going forward.... Well done 1 2
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted October 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2021 As one of the Sherton Abbas team, I think I speak for the others when I say we really enjoyed the show and found it very friendly and well-run. The ventilation seemed to be about as good as you could hope for in such a building. I wore my mask when I was wandering around or on fiddle yard duty, but when operating I decided to remove it as I wanted to be able to engage with the visitors, and also not have my glasses steam up. The near constant supply of tea and biscuits being brought around was very much appreciated. All the layouts were of excellent quality and had something different to offer. Good luck to the Uckfield club for their 50th anniversary next year. 7 1
Ian Smith
I would like to tender my thanks on behalf of the Modbury team to Adrian and the Uckfield team. An excellent show, we felt we were well looked after and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you for inviting us! Ian
RMweb Gold wenlock Posted October 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2021 Many thanks to Adrian and his team for organising such an excellent weekend, I don't think I've ever felt so "looked after" at a show! It was lovely to meet up and chat with real people again after the last 18 months of virtual meetings The evening meal at the Hare & Hounds was exceptional as was Adrian's quiz and I think a good time was had by all! I was truly delighted to win the best layout trophy, as voted for by the other exhibitors, so all in all I had a very memorable weekend. Huge thanks to Roger and Al who helped me transport, set up and get the layout home safely, along with doing sterling work operating Sherton during the weekend. The step-up box worked well with this layout, allowing them a good view at adult eye level. 3
RMweb Gold queensquare Posted October 19, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 19, 2021 Basically echoing what others have said. It was really good to be out exhibiting again and be able to properly meet up with many faces we had not seen for a long time. As usual, Adrian and his team put on a great show and we were royally looked after. After a sticky opening hour (mainly down to rusty operators!) the layout performed very well and we had a great time sending trains between Padstow, Wadebridge and beyond. I took very few snaps other than a couple of SDJR interlopers - my No.45 which somehow took a wrong turn at Templecombe and Gordon Gravett's beautiful model of Radstock. Stephenwolsten
I am interested in collating information from recent shows about attendance, compared with pre-Covid years. The aim would be to help inform other clubs about what to expect or plan for when reaching decisions. Can you quantify anything from the Uckfield Show please e.g. the percentage change in attendance compared with the last equivalent show? Thanks in anticipation. RMweb Gold adrianmc Posted November 10, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2021 For those that are interested I have uploaded a photographic retrospective of the show onto the Club's website. http://www.uckfieldmrc.co.uk/exhib21nf.html There are also very provisional details about our 37th Uckfield Model Railway Exhibition being held on the 15th & 16th October 2022.
