JulianLMS
Does anyone know of a source for Crimson Lake (and other prototype paints for that matter) in Canada or who are able to ship to Canada? So far I have come up blank. Failing that has anyone found a suitable replacement that is sufficiently close? I have several Parkside kits that are stalled for want of a paint job. thanks. brossard
Badger DM&IR Maroon 16-87 is an exact match to LMS Crimson Lake. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Badger-Modelflex-acrylic-paint-16-87-DM-IR-Maroon-/164076858279 This is the Badger colour range: http://www.badgerairbrush.com/library/Paint Chart Images/Railroad Colors.gif John Edited September 10, 2021 by brossard
Jeff Smith
Badger Modelflex is excellent paint although can dry a bit too glossy. The chart is actually not very representative (at least on my tablet). Milwaukee Maroon is good for Met/LT maroon. Humbrol is available by mail order (direct from Humbrol) in the US so probably in Canada too. RC403 Midland Lake from the Rail Colours range. https://us.humbrol.com/support-and-advice/advice-1/humbrol-wallchart This is Humbrol Midland Lake. brossard
I don't mind if paint dries glossy. Easier to apply transfers on gloss finish. I use either Testors Dullcote (but getting rare I fear) or, more recently, Krylon Acrylic Matte to tone things down. John
brossard
Some Humbrol UK Rail Colours here: https://britishmodeltrains.ca/collections/paint I don't see CL though. I have some BR colours and they are quite good. John
Steamport Southport
27 minutes ago, 21C1 said: If you can get regular Humbrol enamels then No 20 Crimson gloss is an excellent match. Yes. It matches the old Humbrol Authentic Railway Colour HR116 LMS Crimson Lake very well. As much to say it's probably the same colour. The same applies to the Chocolate and Cream being the same as the Humbrol GWR colours. 98 Chocolate and 103 Cream. Old numbers HR102 and HR103. https://robdebie.home.xs4all.nl/models/authentics.htm Jason
JulianLMS
Thanks for the responses. I emailed Nigel at British Model Trains. He doesn’t have it in stock and can’t say for sure when he will. I will check out the Badger paints, thanks John. That helps. cheers, Julian
Jeff Smith
It may be cheaper direct from Humbrol......
