Suitable leasing company

I have recently bought a Conrail SD35 with the intention of patching it. As far as I can find out no Conrail SD35 ended up as a leaser or on a shortline. I don't mind it being unprototypical (it's my layout etc) but I would like a "might have been". So can anyone advise on a suitable leasing company or possibly a shortline that might have acquired such this loco for a layout nominally located in Illinois/Indiana in the 90s or early 2000s? I know there are plenty of leasing companies it is just a question of which might be more likely to have an SD35. I would prefer a lease to a shortline although I have Illinois Railway and Indiana Hi-Rail locos already. Thanks.

I'm sure I've seen an SD35 on one of the Youtube shortline sites, but didn't make notes 'cos the D&H never had any !  Could have been one of the IL/IN lines you mention.

A quick look at the Wiki entry for the SD35 shows one of the 3 preserved units spent time with PREX and MALX, and at least PREX does/did leasing as well as owning shortlines.

Indiana Rail Road and Squaw Creek Southern both have SD35m locos, but these appear to all be rebuilds from SDP35s. I don’t know how close these are to ‘real’ SD35s.

The SDP35, and at least the Squaw Creek retain it, have a square off long hood end that allowed for the steam boiler, a can be seen at this picture (SD35M to the right, SD38-2 to the left showing the traditional EMD angled hood end)

But anyone interested in SD35M units need to check the history of the unit - apparently some regular SD35 units were derated to 2000 hp (removal of turbocharger) and some call those units SD35R or SD35M

Unfortunately, RRpicturearchives doesn’t have a picture of that loco. For those locos it does have pictures of, it shows the EMD serial number, from which you can find out what a loco was originally built as.

It started out as an SD35 - the linked site indicates it was built as ACL 1017 which was an SD35 - further searching reveals ACL only had 1 SDP35 which had a different number.

 

But that unit is now an EMD H15, essentially being an SD35 downgraded from it's original 2500 hp to 1500 hp plus other electrical changes for hump service (SCL did the changes, they did 4 SD35 and 4 SDP35 units)
