Lovemymodelling
Hi guys, just some thoughts on what the title says, I’m looking at a Montana Rail Link HO SD45 and pondering on the Genesis or Proto 2000 model with sound, there’s all of $10 price difference but like any input to my decision, I only have one Proto 2000 loco an SP GP in my sea of Genesis , pleased with that but don’t know how the 6 axles add up, thanks

mdvle
They are both good models and somewhat comparable so either is a good choice - really the biggest difference would be that the Genesis is actually a SD45-2 which usually means the only visual difference is the little window on the long hood. Â Generally the Proto 2k and Genesis should be equivalent, where the newer Genesis 2.0 is a bigger step up in terms of features and details and is more comparable to a ScaleTrains Rivet Counter or Rapido.

mdvle
So the exception to the dash-2 rule. Â Good to know, never really paid much attention to the SD45 family as they didn't happen in Canada.

Not as real SD45s (as far as I know), but CP had some SP and DRGW ones rebuilt as SD40M-2s, retaining the SD45 carbodies, in the 549x series. I remember seeing a couple of them and being confused by the slanted radiators before I found out what they really were.
