Up north we didn't get much new stock in the 1970s, look what was still being shunted at Manchester Victoria

08 524 shunts LMS Royal full brake support coach 5155 at Manchester Victoria East Junction

1980s even!

It had been on a railtour from Liverpool to the exhibition in Manchester Liverpool Road, part of which involved Lion.

I can't link directly to the details but check the date 14/09/80 on this website.

Some photos of the exhibition here.

Well that confused me - I thought Lion had been scrapped years before.

I would guess the GB Railfreight motif, on the face of it the image looks like a BR Network Southeast era but it's post privatisation.

Another GBRf celebrity repaint, innit! About to be named too.

Interesting that it has still retained its NRN/ORN antenna - 10 years after the NRN/ORN system was switched off. Unless of course it has been re-purposed for another system?

That kind of makes sense, I just saw it as a 73 in NSE, really didn’t think anything of it… 😀

I believe it was 73126 that was named after the K&ESR in about 1991 and NSE stuck it on a low loader for its naming ceremony at the same railway and operation for a week or so.

Still nice to know there’s a company that acknowledges history though 😀

And the shade of yellow used for the ends!

You`re quite right, my mistake. But you definitely weren`t thinking Titfield Thunderbolt .

I do try not to. The legal complications are dreadful.

Thanks to Ernie on Flickr, here's another implausible freight hauled by a BRCW Bo-Bo, but a bit further north:

O'3002 New Cumnock 26029 Falkland - Carlisle Speedlink including PWA Pallet vans for fertiliser traffic 20 June 1986

Just one Freightliner flat, some vans, and just one double-deck car carrier. You might need a mix of Hornby and Lima models for this (back in the day)

And from Marcel van Eupen, a scene that could almost be the UK 20+ years ago, but is actually present-day:

06-04-24 RFO 687 Amsterdam

I think Ernie has mis-identified those vans, I think they are Interfrigo Ferry vans.

I agree. They would have to be Lima HO scale for the 1980s train set!
