Maybe not interesting or inspirational, but certainly moody and evocative.

Rayne Station 1973 by Pelican-blue railway

Apologies for going off topic but was enjoying the pics and for those who may not be aware, Rayne Station is now restored as a cafe and community facility, and has a Mk2a TSO parked on the platform which has a model railway representing the line before it closed inside. The cakes in the cafe are to die for.

You can walk there from Braintree station in less than an hour or park next to it.

Any more clues about the fridge wagons? Fish going south?

Part of a short lived trial landing Icelandic fish at Mallaig and transporting by rail to Grimsby using interfrigo wagons, there is some more info about it on the "Photos of mixed trains / passenger trains with tail traffic, West Highland Mallaig Extension, blue diesel era" thread.

ARC New Frome Quarry 1970 by Gordon Edgar

ARC New Frome Quarry

At first glance that looks like a pretty deadly trap point arrangement :) - Is it an optical illusion or is one section of track heading off the side of an embankment, with only a sapling serving as a buffer stop ?

I don’t remember seeing pictures of either of these coaches on here before, but if you want something unusual for your mid-80s Scottish layout how about one of these….

Those are great pics as it shows the proposed ScotRail livery, however Chris green preferred the pale blue stripe instead of rail blue.

Very rare spots and previously heard mentions of a Mk3 TSO and Sleeper being involved - can now add a Mk2d TSOT to that list!

Two TSOs - 12019 and 12051

One TSOT - 6601

The Sleeper I've never seen, I've read plenty of rumours of it, sometimes even stating two vehicles but I've never seen photographic proof.

Ah-ha! I have a photo! it was Sc10680 that was repainted. I've heard there might have been a second, who knows.

(I have attached all the attribution I have for the image. I don't know where I got it from and the site listed there is no longer active).

Superb, fantastic and once and for all confirming a ScotRail livery sleeper did exist!

Thank you for putting up the photo.

Excellent post, thank you!

I remember this being discussed in one of the Scottish-themed prototype threads years ago, when the only photo proof was one of the TSOs.

Just shows, wait long enough and information may eventually appear!

From the Platform 5 books I have:

1986 (to 21/07/86): All Sleepers are b/g and SLE 10680 allocated WB (Willesden Brent Sidings).

Winter 1988 (to 07/11/87 [typo?]): Approx. half of Sleepers in IC livery inc. 10680 WB (IWCX - InterCity WCML sector)

The number is a bit unclear, so also in 1986:

10530 - BN (Bounds Green)

10580 - BN but in a batch of 5 allocated to EC (Craigentinny)

10630 - doesn't exist

To add to this, 1987 has the following as other than Blue/Grey:

SLEP

InterCity: 10527, 10546, 10550, 10553, 10565, 10594, 10603

ScotRail (I understand this was erroneously, I believe @Flood may have pointed this out previously?): 10578 & 10610

SLE

InterCity: 10680 & 10692
