I would go a bit shorter, Graham. The Midland at Buxton had a balanced bracket signal, one taller than the other for starters on the platform  between Platforms 1 & 2. The major platform was No2 so that had the taller starter.

So, I think the messing about stage is now over.  Guardrails bodged together with big blobs of solder and then superglued in place, and then the ladder added.  Ratio seem to use very weird plastic; it files easily and seems to have a really soft consistency, and yet the ladders are as brittle as glass!  I cut out about three before I managed one that hadn't reduced itself into a kit of parts...

Paint next!

Taking inspiration (quite possibly misplaced) from the success with the guardrails, I kept the soldering iron flashed up and thought I'd have a crack at some platform furniture from Langley Miniatures.  Quite how people manage to assemble coaches and so on from brass kits is beyond me.  I had a stab at a platform trolley first - meh - and then did a little bit better, just, with a bench.  Lots more practice needed methinks...

I too fancy some of the Langley platform furniture and then the Southwark barrows as well:

Given I am looking at building a couple off full carriage kits, I need to get to grips with soldering.... its all to do with heating up the metal and then letting the solder flow.... So I am told.

The signal looks good - definitely not a T signal, thats a lot later than the 30's.

Re: Bracket signals - I too decided on a bracket for Platform 1 and 2 at Henley-on-Thames, simply because "It looked right". At the real Henley the Platform 1 starter was placed next to the engine release road, which to my mind just looked wrong.

Good luck with the station developments

One approach I have used on these small brass items is to solder the bigger bits first for strength and then to use superglue for the smaller parts.

The other main project over the weekend has been this.  Another Ratio product, obviously.  Mostly built out of the box, although I did reduce the height to make it a little less overpowering, and replaced the water bag with a tube of masking tape (idea shamelessly stolen from @Broadoak (thanks Peter!)

So, now I can get that bare patch of baseboard sorted out, and once the water tower is fixed in place I can then think about bedding in the goods shed as well, and dotting various odds and ends around the goods yard.

It makes up into a very nice model with a number of different options style wise and you've reminded me that I need to make up a little black post to tether the chain on the end of the pipe to. I presume that it's to stop the pipe swinging about in strong winds. Blame or thank @chuffinghellfor spotting the one bit Ratio didn't include in the kit.

After an inordinate amount of faffing about and touching up splodges of paint, the bracket signal is showing signs of being almost ready to plant.  Still need to do the lenses, and a very gentle bit of weathering.  I'll also have to do some research into just how these were bedded into the platform surface in the real world.

I picked up this very interesting book the other day.  It's given me all sorts of (potentially rather expensive) ideas for CR Mk II.  Well, Chuffnell Regis is really supposed to be in Somerset, correct?  Perhaps CR Mk II will be a GWR adjunct to the SDJR.  There might even be the occasional Southern engine making an appearance...  Hmm.

Adding fuel to the fire, I seem to have accidentally bought this rather lovely beast from a certain well known auction site.  I always had a soft spot for the Stanier 8F, but couldn't see a way to justify one.  But the 7F...  (see the above post about CR Mk II).

I have most of those books in the sets and I find them particularly useful for liking at the surrounding areas and scenery of that era.

I find this series really good - I have all 10 of them.
