I recall the supplier saying that until it enters service they are holding back, as the commissioning process could entail further changes in appearance which becomes more expensive to include once metal is cut.

its good to see the 93 is on trial.

That's very interesting, because there have been a few news stories of commuter buses bursting into flames in the Uk and round Europe...perhaps not using the same Lithium technology one assumes?

Diesel bus fires are far more common & dangerous. Just saying!

Also this was an electrical fire that spread to the battery as are most fires.

Not likely to be an issue on an OO gauge class 93 on DCC

Assume there is some data to back up these statements? Particularly interested in the "dangerous" bit and how that conclusion was reached. Doesn't matter what started the fire, it is how it takes hold and progresses that is the issue. Off topic for 93's so not looking for a debate but some viable data would be useful as those are not my understanding of the position.

LTO batteries are safer than Lithium Ion batteries, unfortunately they have lower energy density and lower voltage (2.4v against 3.7v)

Upside is they can be recharged much quicker.

Are these things even in service yet? Because if not….

One and Two have made it onto the rails for testing, one has been on the mainline, not sure where two has got to.

They were both found on the Ashfordby Test track recently

And here on the move at Old Dalby

Hi all,

To some extent we are in the hands of the operators.   The CAD is completed and represents the locos as they are now, however it seems foolish to begin cutting metal until we are certain that the configuration of the locomotives has been finalised.

Having said that, these are great looking machines and so far appear to work exactly as intended, and we are very excited about progressing the model in due course.

cheers

Ben A.
