RMweb Premium Popular Post Gedward Posted June 17, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 17, 2021 (edited) Well that's another stage finished. Next up will be painting/weathering all the stones. But first we need start on the dry stone walls. Edited March 24, 2023 by Gedward 15

Thanks a bunch Graham. Actually as the back scene suggests, it's after some rain, but the sun is now out, so we're expecting a few puddles here and there.
RMweb Gold Graham T Posted June 17, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 17, 2021 Some puddles would be a lovely touch; some nice muddy patches on the pathway as well perhaps? A splash of gloss varnish might do the trick. 2
Andrew P
That sky reminds me of when we lived at Buckfast, and looking out over Dartmoor. As for puddles, I have done some with clear plastic, paint the underside with a gloss black and then glue down around the edges to that its air tight. Then do your scenics around it, and over it to form a puddle. Or a pond. 13 1
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted June 17, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 17, 2021 I would think that puddles would only occur on the non boggy bits of the moor and then they tend to be sparse, due to the slopes. I would think that a general damp, wet look would be more in keeping. 1

The idea is to place a few strategically around the layout. That pond looks very realistic.

Go for it. 3

BTW, I've also got a fairly long canal to model in the front of the layout. I'm using 3mm perspex for that.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gedward Posted June 22, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 22, 2021 (edited) Funny enough, it was exactly a month ago that we started carving the foam with the hot wire tool. Have just about finished the dry stone walls and have given all the the stones a quick undercoat. Next up, weathering all the stones and rocks etc. Then we'll look at long grasses, bushes and weeds.
