Lewis always maintains he'd like more competition. Now is his chance to enjoy it! Sainz qualifies behind the McLarens - great move there, Carlos! - but Ferraris looked better than I expected. Race pace as ever is another matter for some teams, of course. And, as said, Vettel is picking up where he left off......

Yes this should be good! It won’t take much to bring the Mercs back into the pack now either and it’s going to be a lot harder to overtake now the power advantage is smaller and especially if the Merc aero loss is worse when following others. It will be interesting to see how that pans out as Lewis avoided slipstreaming in Q3, maybe to play fair or is it to get cleaner air?

Great Quali, and The Vet was really on form today, he wasn't last,

Vettel 'upset and angry' at qualifying 18th on Aston Martin debut

The C4 commentators described Seb's Q1 exit as a 'shock'.

Personally, based on his form over the last few years, I'd have been more shocked if he had made it into Q2!

The new C4 commentator was woeful. Come back Ben Edwards, please!

nearly four tenths for Verstappen is a country mile, but with Perez down in 11th what will tomorrow bring?! Exciting season ahead!

We’re in for an exciting season!  Can Lewis edge it on racecraft, or will the Mercs struggle too much when trying to chase?

A promising debut for Tsunoda - now, what happened to Aneka?

I’d say that Alonso provides a benchmark for Vettel, showing that talent is transferable when you still have some left, but not when it’s gone.

I don’t think Marzipan belongs in that field - better an arable one outside the track perimeter.

Great race .A real edge of seat finish .Lewis always seems to have a couple of thousands of an MM left on his tire to use at a last gasp  special moment,a few odd tenths that come from nowhere  .His tire managment is his big asset .The longer you are in front the less wear on your tires etc.You can be the greatest hot shot in the world but those black round things are the only thing between victory and disaster all other things being equal .The speed Max used his up catching Lewis  probably just left enough to allow the Merc  to keep ahead .Tsunoda did very well on his debut and Lando shows that Max may not be Lewis's natural  successor  .Billy did well on C4.
