RMweb Premium thegreenhowards Posted June 4 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 4 We have a cassette system which acts as the main fiddle yard for Smithfield. Here are some photos of the system in action. The first photo is looking towards the layout. On the left is the down cassettte. In the middle is a long road accessible from both up and down tracks which caters for trains longer than the longest cassette (5’). And on the right is the space for the up cassettte with a cassette ready to be be into place. Spare cassettes are stored on a table next to the fiddle yard. This includes loco cassettes which are attached to the stock cassettes using theatrical scenery hinges with metal pins which conduct the electricty. Overall, we have five 4’ cassetttes and one each of 3’ and 5’. We have a similar but smaller system at the other end behind platform one for the through goods trains to the docks. This has three 4’ cassettes. This all worked well on Saturday.
