Newton Junction SB in 1970, just south of Bescot on the Grand Junction line...

Interesting photos - however I think it’s Charlemont Crossing (a couple of miles south east of the south eastern end of Bescot yard). There was not a junction at Newton Road (nearest are Perry Barr North or the south east end of Bescot yard). The crossing was closed subsequently to vehicular traffic - in any case during winter months the approach roads from each direction were impassable regularly owing to flooding. In the photos, that is the M5/M6 junction south to north west link - in the top photo, the second road bridge is the south to north east link. A very noisy location with not only road noise but the constant thumping of HGVs over the viaduct expansion joints.

By which time  Bodmin Road Signal Box had been closed for 22 years - it closed on 30 May 1985 according to one source, which sounds about right to me.   (I wonder if it was ever renamed to Bodmin Parkway?  It was still Bodmin Road signal box in 1980.)

It's still Bodmin Road in our house Mike...!

I'm sure this has been featured before, but I thought Kingswear box looked rather good this lunchtime.

However as it offends I've solved your dilemma by removing it.

It's quite an impressive fake isn't it?  I think there was some sort of planning row which forced the company to build it in the style (sort) of a GWR signal box.  At least Kingswear box had been timber but nowhere near that big nor with the peculair step out at first floor level.

However very definitely not a signal box but actually an office building for the railway and steam boat company although their registered office is in Paignton.  But at least it does have a ground frame outside it.

This is a general view of the panel and part of the interior of the line's only signal box which I took during an official visit back in 2009 -

And this is a view of the section of the replacement panel the railway were constructing at that time to replace the one seen in the pic above.   Kingswear is off at top left, Churston is off at bottom left, Paignton is off at bottom right with Goodrington showing  at the bottom.  if you look carefully at the top, right of centre , you'll find this part of the panel shows the location of the signal box.

I don't have a photo f the full extrerir ior of the 'box (al. I have is just part of one wall which won't help much) but this extract from Google Maps shows the roof!

Cotswold delight at Winchcombe...

Bootiful - but it ain't Winchcombe box. That one is an implant to replace the demolished box. Winchcombe box was right-handed with the stairs leading towards the platform end. Why they could not have rebuilt the donor box the proper way round when it was brought in as a full "kit of parts" I have never understood.

Built using materials from Hall Green, where I used to catch the train for many years. This was during the last day of operation in its previous life in August 1984.E7_0026_1984_HallGreen(small).jpg.a2475449d089bb964b97aacd156a282b.jpg

Now, I think the adjudicators will have to decide whether a non signal box clearly labelled "Kingswear Signal Box" can be permitted in this thread or not !!?!

I think the ground frame right outside it is something of a giveaway that whatever that might say that building is not a signal box even if it sort of looks like one.  But nothing wrong with including it as surely if preservation era built fakes are acceptable then it is acceptable?

Condition of the pole behind Tamworth High Level puts it between February 1967 and closure in August 1969.  The span across the WCML was taken down for the electrification and the old spindles hadn't been changed. My boss wanted it done up properly as the big chief was coming on an inspection tour. Being youngest I was sent up to do the work of putting in J-spindles and moving the wires onto them without disconnecting. I then soldered on new droppers with a MOX iron. Great fun lighting one of those when sitting up a pole in a freezing rainstorm.

The big hole in the ground there is now full of new houses!

Gosh you sign an awful lot of railway, Nidge!

I wish Ian! Although I know the Cornish mainline like the back of my hand, I don't actually sign it, sadly. It was nice to revisit old haunts yesterday though, another dose of instant nostalgia to keep the railway mojo on song. I've been told that Truro, Par and Lostwithiel 'boxes are definitely going, but Liskeard will survive for some time yet.

Please put the photo back. I think such fakes are totally acceptable provided the caption notes the fact it is a fake.
