RMweb Premium Vecchio Posted December 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 1, 2020 (edited) Roco announced some time ago to issue again the 4010, which is an electric, locomotive driven train which was used for quick connection of major cities in Austria and sometimes also over the border like Vienna - Zurich or Vienna Frankfurt. The first one was the so called Transalpin, connecting the capitals of Austria with Zurich in Switzerland. And this is exactly the one to be re-issued. Not really my first choice, as I rather model the Southern area (Vienna - Graz - Klagenfurt) of Austria. But it was on my Christmas list. So fat so good, recently I looked into the Hattons used model section - and there was a 4010 for sale! Half the price of a new one, but still not cheap. Model arrived with the usual speed, and to my surprise it was practically unused! The detailing parts were still in their plastic bags, and as there were also the coupling parts in it I could see that the complete train was never running! So lucky me, a complete, unused, 6car train for half the price! This train has conductive couplings throughout the train, only the driving car (the train is a push-pull train) has its own pickups. No light sets in the coaches, so on we go. Time to modify. With a bit of patience the coaches can be opened and I put some passengers in, as I do not like empty trains. In fact I used the 4010 several time for business trips, the second class was always quite populated and the first class rather empty. So little people need to be painted. see here one of the coaches open. 20201119_161223 For the actual light I used warm white LED strips, connected via resistor to the busbar which runs along the bottom of the train. Every coach has a toilett - so the wires can be nicely hidden without big trouble. The driving unit has a driver in the cab, I changed the light connections by using a function output from the decoder. so I can switch the coach lights independent from the head lights. The train arrived as DC with 8pin socket, Decoder installed now is a Zimo MX620, planned is to use a MX 645 in the future. This is a matter of time and price. I normally purchase these decoders in Vienna (a little bit less than in the UK) and where possible I use free sound files from Zimo. There is a free sound project for the 4010 on their webpage. Here the front view, with all detailing parts attached (all glued on). The driving coach has its own decoder, to allow the directional lights. The driving coach is not electrically connected to the rest of the train. The decoder is from Hattons. Don't forget, when you program it you need to connect it to a motor, otherwise it will not work. I have a small testframe for this situation. Both decoders have the same address, works a treat. 20201120_155017 And into the other direction 20201120_155053 I put some effort into the little people, there are more than 100 in the train. 20201113_203250 20201120_160719 20201120_160617 There is a small video, not totally in focus... 20201120_154337 by Gerhard Novak, on Flickr Edited December 1, 2020 by Vecchio Video now uploaded
Alcanman
Very nice model. I remember these units from holidays in Austria. This one, in the newer livery, is at Zell an Zee 1995. The 6010 number indicates a driving trailer unit, I believe. 2
RMweb Premium Vecchio Posted December 1, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 1, 2020 You are correct with the number. These trains were really comfortable, even in 2nd class there were only 3 seats per row.
swisspeat
The addition of figures makes a huge visual difference. Well worth the time and effort. peter
