Aston On Clun. A forgotten Great Western outpost.

That's a top job CK, I'm not sure that my fingers are up to the threading though. 😆

But, I will be taking your advice and making some king posts as it were for each section and not less than one every ten posts.

I'll also take your advice on the number of wires. The bottom one is only a scale 6" above ground and is likely to be hidden in the grass. It's also likely to get in the way when it comes to installing the fence.

Plenty to think about.

I need sectioning because I did all seven 😮

but still not a patch on @Captain Kernow’s though

I remember the discussion about that whole area, hiding the fiddle yard exit, hiding the road running into the backscene as well as the embankment, even the question about how the weeds would have been kept down between fence and wing wall.

I still think it all worked out rather well!

I've also got lots of edges to hide, which I'm looking forward to tackling.

I did manage to get down to the toy and model fair at Bolton over the weekend and this is the railway related part of my haul for present and future projects, an absolute bargain at £19, judging by the packaging, some of it has been hanging around for decades.

That's looks a good haul there Rob.

If I'd known about it I could have popped in and given you some 'competition'.

By law you must have a Wills Chapel on your trainset... however you may build it 😉

Indeed, but I have my corrugated iron fix (Almost!) with the garage and other structures.

However, permission has been granted for the building of the terminus of the line at Clun, with the proviso that Aston is built first.

Built, not "finished" as she knows that like a piece of music, flourishes can always be added or removed and hopefully this layout will continue to develop subtly like many others on here.

At the moment, I'm thinking it will be inspired by, though not an actual model of the old terminus at Cowbridge.

I think that it will find it's way onto that model.

I was pleased with myself at having not bought any wagon kits (actually, there was nothing appropriate to the branch.)

I didn't buy any PO wagons for upgrading (again, not that much which was appropriate) and I didn't buy any more locos, although most GWR and LMS locos were main line engines that were of no use.

I suspect that I am at the point where anything else I buy stock wise would be just collecting and I don't really need it.

Also country garages if you:

*Fit rectangular six pane windows.

*Discard the porch and fit some folding doors to the front.

old terminus at Cowbridge.

Interesting station.   A new housing estate was built on the site of the terminus and goods yard in the late 1960s.  The terminus building was built before they extended the line to Aberthaw and built a new station building on that line.  The terminus building then became part of the goods yard.

My cousin lived in one of the houses on the new estate and used to unearth lumps of coal and coal dust when he was digging his garden.   I always enjoy reading Colin Chapman's book - The Cowbridge Railway.

I bought a copy on eBay, I still can't get my head around the wild variation in price for specialist railway books, it's frankly ridiculous. The cover photo of steam railcar number 9 was enough inspiration for me to buy it and the 1886 track plan needs very little adjustment for a 6' x 2' board...😎

Try this with laminated plastic card.🤪

Not after last time...

You're right though - much of my canal is edged in the same, and I'm sure it's holding the whole layout together!

I'd better give it a paint job to your standards then!

The pin vice is in lieu of any foundations.

I was fiddling around with the old Wills'SS36 Dressed stone wall kit I picked up.

There is actually a plan for a change and it will push forward the landscaping, more of which this evening.

There's an axe throwing venue very near to us and we happen to know the proprietor rather well, you may be unsurpassed to hear.

And they don't "go disco"....😆

Meanwhile, back at the batcave....

How often do we hear: "Those Wills' sheets are too thick" ?

Really?

Try this with laminated plastic card.🤪

Joking a side it looks great 👍

Don't tell anyone but I'm only jealous because I wouldn't be able to do that without it being too uniform 🤫

It is rather uniform though, regulated by the embossed pattern of blocks.

Behind the wall in the photo are the courses of blocks I removed one strip at a time to create the broken wall. Once I had one side cut, I drew around it on the other, but rather than follow the line religiously, I cut to the nearest vertical joint to get the uneven effect. The moulding lines did the job for me.

Impressive wall building skills Rob, Is that grey-board behind the wall a jig of  some sort for the wall? or is it for spacing out the post and wire fencing?

The grey board is a home made jig for spacing the Ratio fence posts at 20mm centres as you guessed. It has markings at each end in line with the provided notches in the fence posts to align the wire.

The copper wire has now arrived from the dark side of the moon so I have little excuse now but to get on with it!
