RMweb Gold Graham T Posted April 8, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 8, 2022 I believe it's a Schmeisser MP40 - but may well be wrong. From what I've read about Miss RRH, hopefully it's deactivated or a replica...

Good night all, Bill Oddly enough, that's where the Memsahib got her interest in antique weapons from, her grandfather has several flintlock rifles in working condition and plenty of space to fire them. Me? I just saw too many war films as a kid... 1

MrWolf
There speaks the voice of a true cynic. When I met Miss R, I didn't know that she liked obscure music, motorbikes, steam trains and things that go bang. But I will agree with you absolutely about my first wife and ninety per cent of my previous girlfriends... 2 1
Popular Post MrWolf
It's been on the cards since the lockdown, but recent events have spurred us on to move home. As our current abode is rented, the layout was designed with portability in mind. It breaks down into five 4ft X 2ft sections, three scenic sections and two fiddle yard sections. It stands on six pairs of 1200mm high legs. I'd initially thought that would be an ideal height, plus it was a simple matter to cut standard 2.4m lengths in half. I've decided to cut 200mm off the legs for three reasons. 1. I don't have to reach across awkwardly to work on the back of the layout. 2. There won't be a gap over the cupboards below it that turned out to be less useful than we thought. 3. It won't dominate the room so much, be easier to light and easier to take photos. I've been taking the loose items off the layout and have taken a last few photos of it in it's original home. It will be going back together very soon, at the same time as the furniture goes in, because I don't want it taking up valuable room elsewhere for who knows how long. That just seems a bit counter productive. Much easier to put it into an empty room rather than fight it around furniture. 24 4
RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted April 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 10, 2022 Those 'distant' images illustrate just how open and spacious this lovely layout is Rob. Nothing cluttered. Of course, a 20ft long layout is not small but the restraint you've shown has paid dividends. Some would have been tempted to build a 'Clapham Junctionesque ' trainset in the same area. Disaster ! A classic case of less is undeniably more. Like many, I'm sure, I shall look forward to seeing Aston in it's new home at Wolf Hall. Bluemonkey presents....
Good luck with your move as Rob says those full length pictures are great really shows the layout off in a different and more realistic way. 2

RMweb Gold Graham T Posted April 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 10, 2022 Would just like to echo what previous posters have said Rob. And I like your tactic of getting Aston in before the furniture - good plan! Hope the move goes smoothly and looking forward to seeing more of the layout. 2
Popular Post MrWolf
Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments. I am indeed very lucky to have the room for a 12ft scenic section and as Rob says restraint has been the key to making it look much bigger. Although I wanted a station with the kind of facilities its extant neighbour has at Broome, I also wanted to give an impression of the expanse of the valley floor, surrounded by wooded hillsides. I've taken down the lighting rig (such as it is) but thought a couple of low level shots were in order. Edited April 10, 2022 by MrWolf

Winslow Boy
Do you have a place in mind Rob. I now you rent at the moment so I assume youll be able to move quite quickly it just be getting the paperwork sorted etc that will be the drag.
MrWolf
Yes, we're moving three miles or so to a place that will be much easier for the Memsahib to commute from (No more running about to catch trains) plus I have more space to work, that's also secure and we have plenty of room to indulge in our hobbies and interests. I sorted out most of the paperwork last Tuesday, so it's been a matter of boxing up our belongings and clearing out the workshop. 4 1
