Popular Post MrWolf
Morning all, it is, just! Before I went into a further LMS drift about LMWR "Cauliflowers" or some such, I have been busy bodging instead. Due to the 'kinhowmuch?!?! nature of foam board, I was left wondering what else I could use. Bringing the car out of the garage this morning, I spotted something wedged up in the garage roof that I had been meaning to take to the tip. A pair of boxes left over from assembling new bicycles during the first lockdown. They're made of triple layer corrugated cardboard and despite having spent two winters in the corrugated iron lean to that houses our car, it hasn't warped. I found this amusing (and mildly depressing) when I was working out where to cut. Hmm. But now I have something in place to provide the hole in the sky: Next job is to trim the photographic backscene to fit and curve around the corners before tucking it down the back of the scenery and securing it to the cardboard. Like a 1980's Blue Peter presenter: "I'm going to be using double sided sticky tape for speed...." Of course we later found that some of them didn't use anything for speed... They had enough money for cocaine instead.... Edited April 18, 2022 by MrWolf 16
Tortuga
I’m not sure if it’s my eyes, the lighting in your railway room or your camera, but those photos look a touch ‘fuzzy’. Very ‘late-‘80s-Railway-Modeller-colour-supplement’ is the best way to describe it! Also, that line of wagons needs a loco on the front of it!

Those for physical ailments either cure, limit or delay the ailment. The real misnomer is "happy pills". All they are is a sedative, they fix nothing, but make you care a tiny bit less about fixing the problem, so you can carry on working to make someone else rich. Sound about right? This has been an announcement on behalf of the Ministry of Cynicism. 2 3

Look you can't always have what you want. You have to make do with what you've got. Just be grateful that we all don't decide to go and follow someone who actually knows what they're doing. Besides don't you have something to do. Don't you have back-scene to paint!

Psychopharmacology is a lot more complicated than that, and very much still in its infancy as a medical science. As a body of scientific knowledge, we understand quite a lot about the basic mechanism of brain chemistry, and also from the other perspective about how various regions of the brain are more specialised than others, and indeed about the interconnections between them all. Is the bits in the middle that we don’t really know, because it’s so ****ing complicated: overall chemical levels can be sort of addressed with medication, but they are not specific - a bit like the amount of aspirin (or whatever) that you take is so much more than gets used by the body, because it diffuses throughout the whole system, but is only required in a localised area. I understand your cynicism: a blanket approach of “take these pills” isn’t very useful as a general approach, but actually, many modern meds are surprisingly effective at altering overall levels of brain chemistry, as I can personally vouch for. Unfortunately, it turned out that the medication was very effective at treating a symptom, but not the underlying cause, which had simply gone undiagnosed for over 50 years. Treating that, whilst reducing the treatment for the symptoms, is somewhat complicated, but this isn’t the place. Good friends do help, though! 3

No I was just going to say that I thought that was what John Paul Jones said. Your fixated on money. You should see someone about that. It's not healthy. Anyway I never said you knew what you were doing. All I said is that we'd find someone who did. So is that a no then to coming and decorating the lounge. Oh look. Is that the time. Must dash I've got to catch some flying pigs. Luckily they seem to be circling. Roast pork anyone? Wing or leg?

Very true, the meds only provide a kind of sticking plaster at present. There's no point prescribing anti depressants for CPTSD. You can't change the past, can't un-see things, or go back and change what you have experienced, endured or the me or them things that circumstance has forced you to do. All you can really do is try to build a new life and whilst having learned from experience, don't draw comparisons and expect that what you today will fall or drag you down like yesterday. She can't remember where she got it from, but Miss R said to me not long after we met: "Don't let your memories kill you."
MrWolf
I prefer: Money can't buy happiness, but it lets you look for it in a lot more places. Attributed to columnist Earl Wilson, 1958. 4
