JinglingGeordie
A nice surprise. Although not a GWR enthusiast (Infidel!) the sleek streamlined lines of the 1930s appeal. Well done Dapol on such fast progress.

RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted October 31, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2020 It's interesting to see the price compared to the Class 121/122 DMU. (Which have still to arrive)

sidmouth
Price point is close to Heljan's variant . An AEC railcar is very tempting , Dapol vs Heljan though

Kickstart
Very happy to see this. Really like the Art Deco style of these, despite them being diesels. Toyed with buying a OO one despite no intention of ever building anything it could run on just because I like them. So, yay! Better save some money. All the best Katy

I’d say the price points were very different... I'm sure i've seen a much lower price for Heljan , more the £420 mark . It could be my eyes and memory failing edit , no they weren't ! https://www.hattons.co.uk/newsdetail.aspx?id=586 £466 though Edited November 3, 2020 by sidmouth
norman
The Heljan railcar is £466.65 at Tower. It seems that the retail cartel of Tower, Hatton's and Rails control the price these days to 15% less than the Heljan RRP .
RMweb Gold Ryde-on-time Posted November 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 5, 2020 And the Dapol Railcar is available similarly discounted to less than £300. Looks superb value to me https://www.hattons.co.uk/594565/dapol_7d_011_001_streamlined_railcar_12_in_lined_chocolate_and_cream_gwr_monogram/stockdetail.aspx 2
fezza
This looks very good indeed. I only have a very small O gauge demonstration line but I will certainly be tempted. On the price point issue, if Dapol can get this to market at around £300, one wonders if they will be increasingly tempted to take on Heljan in the modern mainline diesels market too? The interior detail suggests the railcar might be more expensive to produce than, say, a class 47.
sidmouth
My dithering on the Heljan/Dapol railcars has reached a conclusion . Dapol pannier 9669 will join fellow stablemate 7714 and allow further steam era recreations . Lovely as both railcars are i concluded on a higher play value with a pannier tank
RMweb Gold GWR57xx Posted November 6, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 6, 2020 It appears that Dapol are keeping their factory sound versions to themselves this time, and not allowing their resellers to have them. This is a departure from all their other O gauge releases. I may have to wire up my first DCC chip now...
