LNERJP
I'm looking for a large scale map/Arial photograph of Mallaig for a 2mm scale project and all the usual sources (National Library of Scotland) have drawn a blank. I know the trackplan well and have plenty of photographs but would like to get the curvature of the platform spot on. Can anyone point me in the right direction? RMweb Premium keefer Posted September 12, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) There's a 1973-5 OS 1:2500 map at old-maps.co.uk and that seems to be about all! https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/167563/797075/12/100954 (Ignore the subscription notice, zoom out about 3 times and the map will show. Click the white-on-blue square top-right to remove the blue layer) Don't forget Satellite views, the ESRI World Imagery that the NLS maps use is quite clear/sharp (compared to Google) https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=17.40762917040173&lat=57.00539&lon=-5.83081&layers=6&b=1 The map overlay is irrelevant so just use the satellite view - move the blue-dot slider (bottom left) all the way to the left. Keefer, you are a star. Lovely map, very clear. Useful for me to for the roads on the housing estate. Good luck with your project JP. Will you be doing a thread? LNERJP
Hi Andy Guess I should Doing it in 2mm means I can get it to scale, I need a map to work out the size and shape of my baseboards and then when I have a plan it will be time for a thread. RMweb Premium keefer Posted September 14, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 14, 2020 Incidentally, the old-maps are available to buy as a PDF download (£16) or print (£27.50). The blue layer shows the extent of the print selected. I don't know if it would be worthwhile for you though, you may be able to get a big enough image from your computer screen (especially if you use the full-screen view)

JP Please do. I'm building Mallaig in 4mm so would be interesting to watch your layout develop too. What era are you going for? Andy
LNERJP
Hi Andy I've seen your posts on your layout and you are certainly doing the location justice, and I did intend to get in touch once my layout became more than just a plan. Period will be 1986-88 ish. Cheers JP
mallaig1983
Hi JP, Thanks for your kind comments. Hopefully my layout will turn out as good as it is in my mind's eye. I will look forward to watching your version develop too. Best of luck with it. Exciting times. Andy
