Well that's it.

Back in blighty and back to the daily ground tomorrow.

Such a lot has happened whilst I've been away.

I am reminded of the end of childhood  holidays when you always wondered what has changed whilst you've been away and found getting back into town rather exciting.

Here at SM42 Towers the bathroom has moved on dramatically.

It's got a floor and stuff.

No walls then? Just a floor. That's novel.

You probably also have  the Asp Viper on rodent patrol.

They are probably lying low for most of the day in quiet basking spots and will tend to hunt for their prey during the early evening.

Generally this type of Viper, and I include the Northen Viper (Adder) and it's other close cousins, are very timid and will rely on camouflage and concealment to avoid detection, so unless you know what you are looking for and where to look, you'll probably not come across one.

Here's an example of a Copperhead in the USA just lying on top of a bed of leaves:

Not that easy to spot if you were just walking past.

Yes we do.  I saw one outside the kitchen door on thecpath on day. I daren't tell the boss.

Today I have learnt:

the flemish for Hippodrome is Hippodroom. (caption to a helicopter shot over Kortrijk).

(still watching today's Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne (cycling) recording, proper Vlaams captions unlike the english captions in yesterday's Omloop (Het Volk as was))

ĸen (and for the avoidance of doubt, that initial letter might look cyrillic, but it was intended to please a greek correspondent when I adopted it on linux lists, I've actually stolen an old greenlandic letter).

Yay!  Managed to get a picture in my icon.  Hope I don't get banned for this.

I now note that the link to my images on flickr has fallen off.

Great pics BTW! Assuming it still exists I'd like to go back to Austria again. The first time MrsID and I were there was on our honeymoon

In 1972

I pinched it from Duncan Macrae (Whisky Galore). He was a contemporary of my mum. She knew him  (I think) when he was at Irvine Academy.

I just yesterday pulled out my record of that.  Back about 1963 my Scottish aunties sent us 4 EPs and that was among them.

Bears are not big on the things.  Not a great problem in the North Pole, however.

Beware of the white snake though

Oooh that's very posh. You went with porclein then. Very wise. Stainless steel can get a bit cold. Something not to be encouraged on certain parts of the anatomy.

The old toilet on the patio was chilly enough.

After some bathroom improvements (late 1970s) Aditi’s Dad planted up an old rectangular sink with alpine plants and placed it so it could be seen from the dining room. MiL noticed him then place the old lavatory pan next to the sink. She rushed out and just said “No”.  Now it was generally thought that Aditi’s Dad had absolutely no sense of humour but I thought he was indulging in a massive wind up.

Wordle 254 5/6

This was my first attempt at Wordle today. I haven’t tried it before as I am not good at word games. In Scrabble my mind goes blank and all I can think of are words like cat or dog. However having seen Wordle mentioned on this thread I thought I would at l least try it.

Once upon a time, a Pig, a Crab and a Hippo all went out to a garden centre.

Whilst there they took coffee and then each consumed a Panini.

Then cake and more cups of coffee arrived, the Pig and Crab were busy eulogizing about the Midland Railway, and the Hippo was very quiet.

With the glowing reports of Midland might was still ringing in their  ears, the Pig and the Crab turned around to find the Hippo was no longer there....

Neither was their cake.

The end.

PS.  The Crab sends his best wishes to all.
