The batteries on one set of fairy lights were obviously struggling at the end of the night having seen their third Christmas and all the LEDs had given up except for the green that were still shining brightly.

Could it be that green is less power hungry than red, yellow and blue?

I think I need a large grant to enable further research.

Maybe the green ones contain chlorophyll and so use photosynthesis to generate energy?

I'll split the grant with you.

The box will only have a 10 lever frame, and of those three will be spare. With the bracket signal balanced and interlocked through the detectors, I could have one lever operate either signal depending on which route was set.

Of course all this is hypothetical, as everything really runs off five switches which operate three servos and three Cobalt motors.   So I only need the box with a small footprint, hence the search for a 10' x 10'.

I’m about to ice a Christmas cake. (It’s for tomorrow, not today.) I bought just enough marzipan to cover it, but that required much piecing and patching, so the result is not visually very pleasing. However, to slightly paraphrase SM42’s tag line (above):

”Don’t worry! The icing will hide it.”

Almost there.

Probably a little smaller, like Cardigan.

If I give it full height woodwork and sit it on a low brick or stone plinth, the locking room window would be squared off.

For those interested the locking room door is at the opposite end to the access steps.

From the few pictures I've seen there appears to be is a bit of a pit to get down into it.

A 12 lever frame with eight in use.

It's quieter here today.  Obviously many cases of overindulgence.  Going back a few pages, there were comments about the house opposite not having any chimneys.   Having walked past there today, it does indeed have a chimney stack, it was just not visible in the pictures.

I'm  currently working on the drawings for the new signal box. Although Nyda suggested that if I just made one that looked OK, nobody would be any the wiser....

That we are an easy going bunch that don't care for such encumbrances as accuracy and scale

They just hold us back and stop us expressing our creative free spirits.

With the terrible weather that seems to affect certain parts of the globe, I present two pictures of an afternoon steam up held in Scotland on Christmas Eve.

The loco is a 7/8ths scale gas fired version of 'Jack' seen here running on 32 mm gauge track.  'Jack' was the inspiration for the later Hunslet 'Waril' class of 18" gauge locos.

As you can see they are suffering up there at the moment with sunshine and windless conditions. (Until they started eating Brussels Sprouts.)

Both pictures courtesy of Peter Bakke.  NHN knows him too.

indeed he does!

The weather here just hasn't been right for a steam up, disappointingly.  Given Peter's location he was jammy that day!  I think I may be a little responsible for his adoption of the larger scale,,,,,

Now don't re-re-re-start that bickering match. It may be fun, but not all threads survive it.

Play nice.

It seems that others may still not have finished it either....

From the "lynching at shows" thread.

He's been stirring it up on another thread as well.  The one about the propsed GWR 1930's electrification.

Hmm- maybe if the G*R had electrified, then there wouldn't be a need for moveable lamps - just turn on the ones you want with DCC........

Are the squares on either side access holes? Apologies if you've already explained what they are.

Yes, they are. I built the baseboard a few years ago. It's quite high above the floor and at the time it was no problem to duck-under to get to them. In retrospect that was probably a serious error 😀

Looks fine.  Just one thing.  The goods yard on the right.  That would be mostly unsignalled.  If that's the case then you should probably have a trap point of some kind at the left hand end of the headshunt  where it joins the platform road.

I gave up wildly complicated (imo) plans quite some time ago, purely working on the principle that less is less to go wrong.

You could get a really nice end to end 7mm scale layout into that space.

With that amount of space Aberflyarff(LL) could grow rather than me trying to continually contract the plan to try and fit.

Just think of all those panniers and 16 ton mineral wagons you could be shunting back and forth.

You could even justify a 42xx or two.

Go on, you know you really want to🤣.
