I've seen duplicate posts before but at the moment I've got duplicate pages here - 2025 and 2026 are identical.

Good afternoon folks,

Several other expressions come to mind for those short on mental faculties, typically:

Not the sharpest tool in the box.

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

"Two steps short of the landing"

"Two sandwiches short of a picnic"

and

"Not the full shilling"

I once worked with:-

.

"Surfboard" - Long, thick and had to be carried

.

"Two sheep" - One sheep is stupid, but two are....."

.

"Bungalow" - Nothing upstairs

.

"Jacobs" - Was crackers.

.

Also -

"His lift doesn't go to the top floor"

or worse

"His lift never gets out of the basement"

Not playing with a full deck.

We also had an Olympic torch at one station, she never went out.

I take it that your wallet is in agony.  Try selling a shed to WB.

Jamie

Yes.

WB would need to buy a rather large shed.  Something a bit bigger than yours.

We are looking at deluxe sound fitted deltics times several.  Well 10 at least.

It might be cheaper to buy a new car.

Holly carp! Demand to see the evidence. I once had a problem that looked like a bad ECU. Turned out to be the engine thermostat. Cost about $3.

The actual electronics is usually very robust. It's more likely to be a faulty sensor or a bad connection somewhere. The garages don't want to spend a lot of time diagnosing issues. It's easier for them just to replace everything.

It looks like the fuel pump is slowly self destructing and shedding bits. Fuel filter has stopped some of it.

The diagnostic ( breakdown service , not the garage) was low fuel pressure in the fuel rail.

Metallic bits have been  found in the  fuel filter.

Garage looking to find cheaper parts as direct from the manufacturer it's more like 20 deltics

Will be popping over tomorrow when I have transport.

Mrs SM42 can walk to work.

There are several British sayings of the same ilk such as 'A sandwich short of a picnic'. I'm sure NM's can think of some others.

I've had the, err, pleasure of working with some one who was perhaps best described as being the full hamper short of a picnic.

Also "Upminster",  way past Barking (check the tube map).

And "Not the sharpest knife in the drawer".

In some parts of Scotland glasses are referred to as "gegs". Glasses are also called "specs" (short for spectacles) and applying rhyming-slang that becomes Gregory Pecks.

It's all quite straightforward once you get the hang of it.

There were two S&T techs in the NW London area known as hammer and spanner. S&T techs in this century are expected to have some high-tech skills.....

Too late. I offered the sledge hammer but you turned it down. So not buying any shed from you- all said in a very marked manner whilst floucing out the door.
