Even in 16 mm scale. the late Jack Wheldon built all his locos (and very successful they were too) with a parallel tread to the wheels, with a very small radius into the flange. I believe the flanges were not tapered either apart from a rounding off of the inner and outer faces at the edge. I doubt if inclining the rail would make much difference. That's done on the real thing to increase the contact area between the wheels and the rail to reduce wheel and rail wear. Typically that's not a serious problem for modellers 😀 I made this thingy a few years ago to see what happens. While rolling along straight track (no incline) it weaves from side to side as expected although it doesn't want to stay on fairly gentle curves. It's probably just an example of why things tend not to work the same with major differences in scale. 11

ISTR a few years ago (premium) property prices in New Zealand were rising faster than anywhere else in the world. Seen as a modern, democratic, low crime society well away from all the world's disputed regions and conflict zones, many of the world's richest people were buying homes there to retreat to when the next World War starts. 3 8 1

This is my favourite corner. Is outback Australia not wide enough and flat enough that they couldn't find a bit that didnt need an S bend in it? My alternative thought is that one bunch of blokes was laying the track from right to left, and another lot coming from left to right and they juuuust missed. RMweb Premium Popular Post SM42 Posted June 4 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 4 (edited) Well a set of points laid today at club and the rest of the track plan roughly laid out to test fit onto the boards. Nothing like planning ahead and this is nothing like it. On a more annoying note, Mrs SM42's ride has sustained damage to the offside front corner during the day. A nice big swipe across the corner of the bumper. Some nice scratches, a slight distortion and a couple of gouges in the plastic. Mrs SM42 says there was a funeral at the church today and the car park (her work and the church share car parking) was very busy, so some kind soul has probably misjudged the size of their car and then done a runner. Just about puts a fitting end to a really s****y day. Andy Edited June 4 by SM42 1

RMweb Premium J. S. AndyID
Lorna baked some chocolate chip cookies from a box of Betty Crocker pre-mix (jolly good they were too!) I was looking at the box and I noticed the flour in it was "enriched" with a lot of nasty chemicals such as folic acid, riboflavin, niacin, and thiamine. I feel a letter to my MP is in order. Oh, wait a minute 🙂 Edited June 5 by AndyID moinfo 3 10
