The latter was a harmonica player. So what? When he died, no less than President Barack Obama sent his widow a personal message of condolence. And in his native country he had been created a Baron. 8

Popular Post iL Dottore
HH has my heartfelt sympathies for his current predicament, thank goodness that my eyes are in good nick. I really do have a hard time tolerating eye treatment on myself (and I’m not too enthusiastic about giving an eye treatment, albeit the last time I did so was to treat Lucy’s eye infection with an antibiotic eye cream I got from the vet) Dental work? No problems - I’ll just lie back, open my mouth and go to sleep (wake me when you’re done). Arthroscopic examination and meniscus shaving under local? OK, let me have some serious drugs to enjoy and I’ll be fine. Oh, and by the way, can you turn the monitor so I can see what’s going on. Model knife laceration to repair? What do you think, doc. Steristrips or sutures? Either is fine by me… But eyes? Only in extremis (which may be sooner than later: my ophthalmologist has detected an incipient cataract in my right eye - but now it’s just “wait and see”). But HH, it could be worse, you could be modelling the LMS….. 1

I remember that film, although not pornographic per se, it caused quite a stir when it was released in 1969. Mémoires d'une Hippopotames du Chambre I think it was called. The scene in the muddy hollow showing full frontal hippo was deemed incredibly scandalous and shocking. Questions were even asked about it in the House of Commons. The film itself was not very good, although it did have a rather good jazz-rock soundtrack by the Fils de Brunel. There was, however, one thing from the film that did become incredibly popular for a year or two and that was the catchphrase “Twirl for me Chérie”. The reason it was pleasant was because the weather was beautiful. Lots of sunshine and the mountains have lot of snow. It was also quite relaxing because most of it was with the cruise control set at 82 mph and there was very little traffic on the road. The route was North on Interstate 15 then West on Interstate 90. The I-15 section crosses the Continental Divide West to East at 6,800 feet then recrosses East to West at 5,800 feet. Quite cold up there but the road was free of ice and snow. Truly spectacular on a clear day as it was today. It's still a long way for your little tractor🤣

Funnily enough, I have a converted and detailed Lima 7mm(ish) 4F, and a Dapol Jinty in the sales box. However, I also have a soft spot for the Ivatt Class 2 mogul and her tender-less sister, the Class 2 Prairie tank. Add a Sulzer Class 2 (Class 24) into the mix and an BR(M) branchline in the N Wales borders is not beyond the realms of possibility.... Or even a stretch of the post '62 Cambrian lines. Croes Newydd shed could always throw a pannier or a 56/66xx into the mix if I get homesick. Edited February 24 by Happy Hippo 13
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted February 24 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 24 I also feel for you HH, though this infatuation with looking at panniers might get it classed as a self inflicted wound. I had to see an ophthalmologist last week. It's compulsory in France, the exam is in two parts. This one checked for glaucoma and macular degeneration. Fortunately I was cleared on both counts. I go back in March to get a standard eye test and the new prescription that I think I need. Jamie 11 1 3

RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted February 24 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24 Just about to apply drop Nos 5 & 6.🤣 The list is working well. The peepers are feeling much better this morning, which means I will shortly be tasked with some cleaning duties. If I'm quick I can volunteer to shampoo the carpet. Wales v Ireland this afternoon. It's going to be a corker of a match, although I am under no illusion about what the final score is likely to be. I think the same can be said about Scotland v England. Although I will be able to watch and appreciate this match far more, as I will not be on the edge of my seat, alternatively snarling and weeping whilst scratching chunks out of the granite fireplace. 16

RMweb Premium Popular Post SM42 Posted February 24 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 24 TNMers may remember the saga of the shelf. Well shelf number 3 installation has been allocated a time slot today. Much measuring has gone on to get it all lined up with the other two, but I have now run out of hands, Mrs SM42 has gone out and so the job is at a stand. All this has not been helped by the bracket on the new shelf being a different size to the other two, thus some hard maths and lots of diagrams later I think I've got it sussed. I just need someone to hold the long straight edge so I can run a tape measure over the whiole lot to check my calculations are right. Then I've just got to drill the holes, fit the bracket, turn the other two over to hide the screws and vacuum up the debris. Whilst the vacuum is out, I then have to clean the whole room and downstairs as visitors are expected tomorrow. One is a carpenter. Very useful person to know. He will be measuring up the West wing for storage solutions. I'm thinkng wheeled cabinets ( so they can be moved out of the way if needed, ) with drawers that double up as portable stock boxes. For next week, a window cill needs a repaint along with the old airing cupboard job. Finding some time to get some modelling jobs I'm doing for others off the bench may be tricky. RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted February 24 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24 The carpet cleaning is going to get done tomorrow morning. Being a nice day, I was despatched outside to clean the downstairs windows. I also managed to get another coat of furniture oil onto the patio table top. I really ought to give the car a clean: Probably after lunch, but before the match. Which has just reminded me to put the Guinness in the fridge. 9

RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted February 24 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24 More drops in eyes, and the car got washed before the match started. Some Guinness and crisps consumed. I've decided to go shooting tomorrow afternoon, which should be fun, as I can't remember what range I zeroed my two rifles. Was it 10/25 or 15/30? I suspect I'd better do a quick test shoot tomorrow lunchtime before I set off for the range.... I don't want to look like a chump by not hitting anything🤣 12 1
