I imagine my 'Rails to North Wales' videos, volumes 1 and 2, would be useful showing some of the trains you are modelling in the late 1980's, but there is no way anything can be copied since my machines hit the skip. Merfyn Jones also filmed our local scene from 1988.

Hi Larry,

Are the videos still available? I have a' Video Track North Wales Coast 1979- 2000' but most of it covers late 90s with some 70s archive bits thrown in so really not much use.

Cheers Peter.

Hi Larry & Peter

I have copies of the videos (thanks Larry) which I could transfer to CD on my machine.

My own stuff is already on CD and I'm not sure how to do copies of these.

I have the Super-VHS Masters but no way of playing them to copy onto VHS. Most of my raw footage is on original Video-8 and Hi-8 tapes and needs editting, but again I have no way of accessing the contents now. I still have a Hi-8 camcorder but it needs some attention. I remember borrowing Merfyn's shoulder-mount camcorder in 1988 and filming two Freightliners passing at Llandudno Junction. This is what spurred me on to getting a camcorder. Additionally, Tony Colbeck of Anbrico recommended the more compact Sony V90, hence working on 8 and later on Hi-8.

Hi Merfyn & Larry,

If it's ok with Larry a copy on Disc would be great if it can be done I am no computer guru.:D If you have any pics though Merf feel free to post them on here.;)

I found an old Railscene video the other day which I had forgotten about it has some class 25s on the coast and part of a cab ride from Crewe to Holyhead very useful.

Larry I am sure your video-8 etc could be copied, it would just be a case of finding someone or someway of doing it. I bet you and Merf have some great footage it would be a shame to lose it.

No progress in the garage tonight but I did get a bit done at the weekend, I will get some pics up later in the week.

Cheers Peter.

A few progress pics of the senic work, while waiting for paint and plaster to dry I have made up a Parkside Grampus and sorted the wheels and lowered a Golf GTI, looks heaps better.

Cheers Peter.

Nice work Peter - the grass bank is looking good.

Love the lowering of the Golf GTI...did you drill a few holes in the exhaust pipe too? Needs a sound chip!

Love the GTI Peter, quality. Do you have an XR2 by any chance?!!

You really have made good progress with the new scenic areas; at the speed you are going I may have to enrol you for some help with Boxenby! :D

Thanks Alex,

No XR2 yet, does anyone make one? I am happy with how the senics are going, I am on a bit of a roll at the moment. I realised I haven't posted any pics with locos in for a couple of pages so I might have to do something about that. What about some 20s :D

Cheers Peter.

Hi Peter,

Looking good. I like the GTi. I've just bought one of those myself. The lowering definitely makes it look more like a GTi than a standard Golf. Don't know if you know, but Oxford do an XR3. You could have a wide-boys gathering on the bridge, ready to burn some rubber, with suitable tyre marks across on the bridge of course.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks Dave,

I have an XR3i which I have also lowered and thinned down the wheels.I converted a white one to a standard Excort as well. I should do some burn out marks somewhere. I never did such silly things when I was younger.:D

I can't get to the 20s at the moment so a 47 and 31 will have to do. the new senic bit is coming together quite well behind the locos, as I have now painted the underlay, the bridge extension still needs to be blended in a bit more.

Cheers Peter.

Hi Peter

Great photos as ever - just a quick question. I've seen you applying what I assume is hanging basket liner to the embankment as I've done to mine. What have you done to bring it to life in the most recent photos?

Cheers

Phil

Hi Phil,

I have used carpet underlay, its like the hanging basket liner. Once I have given it a trim I just use cheap tubes of acrylic paint, one is dark green and one yellow oxide. I put both colours on a peice of card then vary the mix on the senic section some bits I leave the brown colour. Best to add a little paint at a time and buld up the colour if you want. It's easy to add a bit more paint than to try and take it off.:D

Cheers Peter.

If you were to have a collection of boy racers and their cars based around the time period of the layout, then you would be much better with a motley collection of Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts, maybe a Talbot Sunbeam (made to look like a Lotus Sunbeam) and some poor, deluded fool in a Chevette with Rostyles on it.

Your discerning boy racer back then (me included wink.gif) wouldn't be seen dead in a front wheel drive car, especially a Mk3 Escort! XR3's may have been quick, but the power drove the wrong end of the car....

Havn't visited for a while but looking as fantastic as ever.

Went to Llandudno on the footplate of a Castle 5043 :D the other week. Was half expecting it to be like your model, thats what my mind was telling me. Twas very dissapointed when I got there :( You could sense the loss of atmosphere. Not a 47 or 33 to be seen anywhere, your layout does re kindle the old world well done.

Hi sandside,

I agree I have never been a fan of front wheel drive either. It would be nice if someone brought a MK2, I had a couple though they weren't quick 1.1 and 1.3.:( we did have fun in the 1.1 it was quite good for rally driving up the forest.:D I still see the odd MK1 & MK2 over here in Oz though most MK2s are autos they are nearly all 2.0 ltr.

I had an old Triumph Dolomite 1850 which went quite well some days, but I think one of the quickest cars I went in back in the day was an Avenger Tiger it used to beat MK1 RS Mexico's until he wrote it off by using a Morris Marina as a brake.

Thanks Claggy,

A Kettle on the Coast, that would have been great were you driving or shoveling the coal.:D

Cheers Peter.

Senic update, and a couple of green engines, a friend of mine dropped by yesterday with two of his lastest locos. I am not a big fan of GWR stuff but the little Prairie looks quite good, the 3MT on the other hand is superb, I have always like these little locos. I remember seeing pictures of these locos in my Ivo Peters S&D books and wished someone would do a model, Along with a 7F and 3F, I remember building the Airfix Standard 4 2-6-0 and wishing I could power it up though to be honest I could never get the wheels to turn  Maybe one day I will build a small S&D layout.:D

Cheers Peter.

Nice!

I like the "disused" track in the foreground. But you're really on a slippery slope now, Peter. First, sound, now steam as well! :P

:drinks:

Thanks Jeff,

I think we both know steam isn't going to happen. The few I had I sold, though if I ever win a heap of cash Llanbourne could become Bournemouth West. :D

Cheers Peter.
