Bulleidboy
On the East Coast main line near the Northumberland coast and Holy island. Correct - chosen as it was the point at which Royal Scots Grey first achieved 100mph en route to Dundee

eastwestdivide
Don't know what it's called, but N of Grantham, where the Skegness line goes under the ECML. The S-E curve is in fact still there, although all piled up in sections waiting to be disposed of, at least a few weeks ago when I went past. Next square in a little while. Bulleidboy
It's Tonbridge: Next one: To the West is a terminus and two miles North another station. To travel by rail between them you would pass through at least 19 stations, three junctions and change trains twice.
eastwestdivide
... alternatively you could cycle over a very big bridge?
Bulleidboy
You may think that but I couldn't possibly comment! To all One Squarers, how would you feel about a slight change to the rules allowing names in the square to be erased?? I've found some nice distictive junctions but there is a give away by each one. eastwestdivide
Well I was wondering if it had run its course really, and should be left behind for another quiz. Someone ought to archive it for future club night quizzes.
RMweb Premium dagrizz Posted June 8, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 8, 2011 I wasn't going to reply this quickly but EWdivide has put up a huge clue, so ................ Mike, regarding changing squares to erase clues, if you want to then go ahead but is this the thin end of the wedge? There are lots of squares yet to be used - especially on disused lines(besides, I wouldn't know how to erase things ). The next square used to be a junction. Bulleidboy
Barkston Junctions? Barkston South Junction is where Mallard started her record run. Yes Barkston & Hougham junctions - didn't know of the association with Mallard but chose it as the shape looked fairly easy to find.
