pH
Clue - at one time, EMUs which later became known as class 302s ran on this line.
pH
Another clue - but eventually many, many, many more 303s ran here.

pH
Clue - four brothers (from a family of five sons and five daughters) some of whom were born near here went on to be railway engineers. Edited December 19, 2014 by pH
pH
Another clue - between them, these 4 brothers were employed in various positions with the Newcastle & Carlisle, Bolton & Leigh, Liverpool & Manchester, Manchester & Leeds, Grand Junction, London and South Western, Eastern Counties and Great Western railways, plus the Vulcan Foundry. pH
This line was opened for freight in 1857, and to passengers in 1858, by a company that had, at its maximum size, only 43 route miles. Passenger services were withdrawn on this line in 1950, but it remains open for freight and as a diversionary route.

RMweb Premium martin_wynne Posted February 27, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 27, 2016 (edited) Struggling to find the OS maps online now without having to pay a subscription, can someone give me a link please? Hi Andi, Here you go: http://www.fonant.com/osmap.html That site is provided free by Anthony Cartmell under the "OS OpenSpace Developer Agreement". edit: Note that at top-left on there is a vertical gauge, showing daily use of the site. It is usually in the green near the bottom, but will rise if everyone on RMweb goes there all at once. The OpenSpace agreement limits the total number of free tile views allowed per day. (A tile is one OS square). You can zoom in to the free 10K streetmap, and out through the 50K Landranger maps for this game, to the familiar free road maps, but the 25K Explorer mapping is not available on there. Martin. RMweb Gold Dagworth Posted February 27, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2016 Thanks Martin, That's exactly what I needed. So here is a new square, we've probably had it before, but I'm not going back over 93 pages to check... Andi
