Administrators Popular Post AY Mod Posted March 23, 2020 Administrators Popular Post Share Posted March 23, 2020 With tonight's announcement that non-essential retailers will be closed under the current lockdown I thought it worth flagging up where readers can still 'shop'. The first email I have received is from TMC: themodelcentre.com Quote Coronavirus Covid-19 Update 23rd March 2020 With the announcement of a Lockdown, we wanted to keep you up to date with the latest operational status at TMC. Dispatch team: We're extremely lucky that some of our staff in our family run business live on site. So it's business as usual in the dispatch department with extra family members mucking in to get your orders dispatched to give you something to do during self-isolation! As we enter a lockdown scenario we think we will be able to maintain order shipments as long as the delivery companies keep going. Sales & customer service team: Our Sales team will be working from home throughout the pandemic but they will be available during opening hours to answer your calls and emails and will remain to be throughout this lockdown. So feel free to get in touch either by phone or by email, we're here to help! Workshop: We do have certain members of our workshop team working from home and we're trying to keep things moving as well as we can. We do expect some delays in the event of a lockdown, so please bear with us! Shop/Showroom: We closed our shop the government recommended we should do so, as your safety and the safety of our staff always come before profit. The store will remain closed for the foreseeable future and will reopen when it is deemed safe to do so. All our shops will need our support where we can. Please do post specific examples with supporting information and keep any distracting elements to the bare metal minimum, let's keep it a useful topic! 20 3 3

None of us can claim to predict every potential impact of this but we've had a healthy conference (call) today on how our next few months in BRM will be looking. Whichever way it's an ideal time to consider a digital purchase. Apart from that message from your forum provider this isn't the topic for that discussion - it's about the retailers! 9

We may offer a local delivery service over the next few days but we will have to see what advice is given in today's government update. Amand
1 minute ago, dpgibbons said: From Hattons - " We are making plans for a Government enforced 5-6 week despatch operation shutdown starting 26 March" That was announced a few hours before Boris made his announcement. Technically model railways aren't essential, and maybe the staff attending work are breaking the rules of they're more all from the same household. Boris could have said all retail functionality had to stop, but he didn't go that far. Maybe he has a trainset in one of the rooms in number 10? Trains4U
(Sorry, I've just lifted this from our website/facebook) Following tonights Prime Ministerial address, we are having to close our doors to visiting customers. Please do not travel unnecessarily. We will not be able to serve you. We are still maintaining a mail-order capability and will do so for as long as possible. In order to keep any risk to our employees to a minimum, ALL orders will be shipped via our contracted courier service (DPD). This means that all orders will be subject to a £4.95 postage fee and we are applying a minimum £10 order value. Please note that any orders to Highlands, Islands or non-UK addresses will not be posted until the lockdown is over, unless the appropriate courier charges are paid in full. (edit: We will try our best to keep any additional postage charges as low as possible, but courier charges to non lowland addresses can be very high. Currently, posting via royal mail requires a visit to the post office. We will not have capacity to do this until the lockdown rules are relaxed.) Our phone line will be open Tuesday - Friday 9:30-17:00 (01733) 895989 The line will be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday, though our website will be available 24/7. We will aim to process your order as quickly as possible Plans are in place to provide a virtual showroom, with regularly updated images of our stocks to help with any mail order requests. Thank you for your support and understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Edited March 24, 2020 by Trains4U 1 1 3

I don't wish to speak for the o/p but yes they will. But only if you pay the additional charge that DPD make, which has not been stated. It is significant for the Highlands and Islands. It is this much higher charge that is the issue, I have the same issue (as a user of DPD, who are very good, part of the French Post Office) but am still using Royal Mail, which is much more reasonably priced. More generally I hope mail order does continue, and am very thankful for all delivery drivers and postmen and postmen, who do a great job. Just a shame that our government, who are now (quite rightly) so concerned for our welfare, privatised the Post Office, with resultant casualisation of the workforce and traducing of the Post Office network. Derek Russan
At Eileens Emporium we are doing our best to carry on working as normal, within government guidelines, until we are no longer able to do so. We are a small team so have isolation under some degree of control. Following the lockdown announcement we held a video meeting with all staff and everyone has volunteered to continue to keep the mail order going and are not open to visitors. A lot of administration will be done from home keeping the office restricted to dealing with orders, both in and out. We will have to stop if the postal and courier services stop. As stated elsewhere we have significantly reduced our threshold for free postage. While not considered essential, we are very conscious that getting supplies to you can in itself be a great benefit to keep you occupied while at home. We would like to thank all our customers for their on-going support during these incredibly hard times. 8 3

RMweb Gold Derails Models Posted March 24, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 24, 2020 (edited) Thank-you to Nile for posting our update above, I'll be putting it on our own thread very shortly. Although this is primarily a model shop thread, I thought (and I hope it's alright Andy, if not please remove it) that I'd drop in a couple of manufacturers statuses: Dapol - Showroom closed but trade side open and despatching Peco - Closed for minimum of three weeks, this includes the trade and retail side including the factory and despatch. Hornby - warehouse still open and despatching as usual. Office staff working from home. Edited March 24, 2020 by Derails Models Didn't get the same info Phil did below, so edited accordingly
Phil Parker
From Dapol: The Dapol showroom is now temporarily closed. It will not reopen until such time that the Government deems it safe to do so. Widnes Model Centre
This should help those shops that remain open for mail order and delivery: We are still unsure what "delivery" actually means, i.e. Can we deliver to local customers, or is it only using a Courier, Royal Mail etc. Direct lift from Twitter via BBC Web site. UK cabinet minister Michael Gove has been asked to provide more clarity on the government guidelines announced on Monday night. Speaking on Radio 4's Today programme, he said: Chancellor Rishi Sunak will outline more help for self-employed workers later Deliveries of "non-essential" goods such as toys and clothes can continue He says people should work from home "wherever possible" but there will be exceptions. For example, he says plumbers may be called out to emergencies but Sports Direct stores "should not be open" Ministers want to "reduce the rate of infection" and will follow scientific advice on whether or not to change the measures after three weeks Children under the age of 18 can travel between the homes of separated parents - a point he reiterated on Twitter: 1
