Top modelling Jeremy, that's really coming together nicely isn't it. Have you had any thoughts regarding the back scene?

All the best,

Dave

Thanks Dave! I haven’t given much thought just yet to the back scene but I’ve certainly been making notes from various threads to give me some ideas. Any suggestions most welcome!

Best regards,

Jeremy

That office building looks brilliant already, one wouldn‘t believe that it‘s n-gauge! As a minor criticism, the footbridge would probably look better if painted grey and/or with some strong weathering applied.

Best regards

Christian

Thanks Christian. The office building still has lots to be added to it. The footbridge will be painted grey, I just haven’t got round to it yet, I took inspiration from the one at Pratteln for the colours. The Kibri kit was a good fit as most of it looked quite similar with some additional scratchbuilt details. I used two kits to get the span across all five tracks.

BLS 465 013-1 and 465 016-4, Pratteln

Best regards,

Hi Jeremy,

I am not sure how much advice you need from me! Your modelling is superb and I was only asking out of interest. I've always been a fan of a very simple backdrop allowing the focus to be the trains (and in your case the brilliant buildings as well). A simple light blue (darker at the top, lighter at the bottom) has looked good on a number of layouts. The simplicity and the background colour being light helps with photography as well.

Not that there is anything wrong with photo realistic back scenes, it's just that your modelling is so super I am not sure you need any assistance in providing a realistic backdrop for the trains.

All the best,

Dave

Evening all,

I’ve been making some slow progress with the office building and have started working on an internal part which will be visible on the layout. The right hand side seems to be the deliveries/dispatch area of the building and I’ve decided to model it with the doors open. So here is the progress below.

I’ve cut out a floor that spans the whole ground floor and have started adding the details as far as I can see from google street imaging.

Here is the start of the model with the I beam sticking out. I’ve used 4mm I beam for this from evergreen styrene strip. The little platform next to the doorway will have a small scratch built railing added using 3mm and 4mm styrene rod, again from Evergreen models. There are still plenty of details to add in this area before attaching to the main building structure. Progress so far.

Next up is the canopy. I’m using sheet plastic planking for this, same as I’ve used for the main office block. To the back I’ve added 0.5mm square strip to create the back of the metal structure as seen in the below photos. Still some details to add to this but it’s getting there.

Next are the side beams which are attached to the internal sides of the canopy. These are made up again from evergreen I beam strip, this time 2mm. Small pieces of this strip have been cut to make the parts that attach to the main beam sticking out of the warehouse area. I’ve decided to use plastic weld as this forms a nice strong bond and allows me to file bits down to size without them breaking off.

Here is a photo of the actual structure I’m trying to model.

And the parts modelled so far.

These parts then welded together at right angles.

Next will be to carefully file the short ends so they are all the same length and then fit to the canopy side. This in turn will be added for the main building structure and all being well, attach to the long beam sticking out…..well that’s the plan anyway!

Best regards,

Jeremy

Hi,

The first side of the roof canopy has had its detailing completed and I’ve now secured it in place in the model. I’ve tried to add as much detail as possible, within my modelling capabilities of course! 😁

And here it is on the model building. The floor has not been secured in place yet as there are still a considerable number of details to add and I want to paint this section first before it’s added on. I’m also thinking about having a soft light in the depot area. We will see….

Evening all,

Headed into the garage tonight and I’ve posed the office building in position just to get an updated feel on how this might look. Quite pleased with the look so far!
