RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 10, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 10, 2021 I certainly won’t be offended if you don’t use the dragster as it was done as a joke, hence why I tried to make up for it with two non-silly ones 2
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted July 10, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 10, 2021 I believe that sort of dragster is known as a 'rail job'. Kinda fits. 1 1

All this stuff about Land Rovers (and tractors and sheds) has influenced my ideas about terrain to the extent that I have now decided to incorporate an area of land very close to Easton where there is a Land Rovers Owners' Club holding a meeting. This means that there will be the opportunity to display vehicles competing on a cross-country track, vehicles that are brand new (and thus very shiny) being displayed by a dealer and vehicles parked in a car park, belonging to spectators. There could also be an area reserved for owners to show off their latest restoration projects and another for specially adapted vehicles such as canopy nudging detectors. I'm not yet sure how I can include a dragster . . . . . . . . Sounds like a plan. There is also this option: 6

RMweb Gold Mick Bonwick Posted July 12, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 12, 2021 Painting rail sides is boring. It's got to be done, though. So is removing Dullcote from vehicle windscreens. I think I'll do something with Land Rovers. Or, maybe, a shed. A tractor? What do you think? 1

I find boring jobs get done best by setting a realistic target for each session, and having something nice lined up for when I have met the target! 2

Things get to be a bit weird here on the Island at times. Sorry about the quality, my wife took them for me through the car window on my phone cam as we were passing it. A Suzuki jeep type thingy (not a Landy) but seen parked on Easton Lane this afternoon. Perhaps the dragster isn't that far fetched. RMweb Gold Mick Bonwick Posted July 13, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2021 Many thanks for your responses. A plan has been formulated. Based upon experiences with the general ballasting process so far, and the thoughtful suggestions above, I have come up with this: Work on a short distance of track at a time. Decant one splodge of paint into a dish and work until it has all gone. Clean up and get a coffee. Remove Dullcote from one more vehicle's windows. Do some more greenery somewhere. With that plan in force I should be able to make general satisfactory progress and have something positive to show for it all at the end of the day. Here, then, is the state of play today: After doing about a foot along both tracks and the crossover, I moved on to window cleaning. The windscreen of the Land Rover was coming along nicely until my clumsy thumbs came into play. The edge of the canopy snapped diagonally from one corner, so I decided that I would have to be a bit creative. Out came the razor saw: Now I'm going to do some more greenery. No wine yet, it's a bit too early. 7

MrWolf
I really should paint the sides of my rails and weather the sleepers before my layout goes much further as well. 1 1
RMweb Gold Mick Bonwick Posted July 13, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2021 Proceeding apace! Remaining rail sides all now painted on the northern half of Easton, so I decided to mask off and splatter track dirt all over the track on the southern half. Fan on full blast, windows open and mask well and truly on. What that means, of course, is that I've now got more rail sides to paint. 11

RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted July 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 14, 2021 Perhaps I'm missing something, but if you've sprayed all the track, why does it now need the rail sides painting?
