panniertank
I will be converting all my locos [old dc models] and I have 2x panniers amongst my 'fleet', so I'm glad to see you have those decoders in stock! I was quoted at £115.00 for the decoder locally [don't know WHO'S decoder this is either!] PLUS £35.00 for fitting same PLUS £5.00 return postage! An expensive business all in all! very glad I found and joined this site. Some very nice genuine people here who all share a common interest. I look forward to my very first DCC loco conversion.........it's what got me back into model railwaying. Guest Redskalie
Interesting. What is a reasonable fee? Will you be doing other mods while fitting, e.g fitting lights lamps etc? Will I be able to drop my locos off and pick them up later same day?
Trains4U
Interesting. What is a reasonable fee? Will you be doing other mods while fitting, e.g fitting lights lamps etc? Will I be able to drop my locos off and pick them up later same day? Hi A 'Reasonable Fee' depends upon the work required. As an example, a Class 52 will require drilling in the fuel tanks and replacement of the speaker for a larger version. I normally charge £102.50 for the decoder, £20 for the fiting and £5 for the speaker. A large steam loco requiring a tender connection and modifications to the tender to accept a speaker would be about £30-£35 - though an A1 or A4 would only be £5.00 as it is a very straightforward job. unfortunately I can't usually do same-day unless I happen to be in the shop on a particularly quiet Saturday or Sunday. I'd allow a week or two under normal circumstances. Any additional modifications would need to be discussed and quoted based on complexity. Saying that, I was working last saturday and managed to do two Westerns.
