MattDitch
For once today's offering doesn't use a Kato chassis! (Yes I'm fine) A few weeks back I shared my all-new Skylark tram and today I'm sharing the original 0-4-2 version. This is designed to fit the Bachmann 009 "Peter Sam" chassis (not supplied with the kit) These can be purchased from either my website or eBay Website >> https://www.mattditch.photography/online-shop-1/009-kerr-stuart-skylark-style-body-no-skirt-mdm15 eBay >> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134725904180?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=BFNBBPTARoq&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=BFNBBPTARoq&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Happy modeling :)
MattDitch
A few years back I visited the Museum of Scottish Railways in Bo'ness Scotland. Whilst the majority of the exhibits there were standard gauge tucked away in a corner was one narrow gauge steam locomotive. The loco in question was a 3ft Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 tank named "Fair Maid of Foyers". Unfortunately, I couldn't see a price tag and I doubted I could carry it back to the North East on the train. So, I came away with plenty of pictures and a plan to one day design something heavily inspired by the loco in 009. And here is the final result! The model is designed to fit the popular Bachmann N gauge Percy (not supplied) You can purchase the model from either my Online shop >> https://www.mattditch.photography/online-shop-1/k056pisbj2l0wd4o1dwp4rddfcrdpd or eBay page >> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134734844126?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=BFNBBPTARoq&sssrc=2566055&ssuid=BFNBBPTARoq&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
MattDitch
North Eastern Railway style 0-6-0T locomotive body kit "Holderness" For a very long time now I've had plans to make a model based on the proposed North Eastern Railway 0-6-0T for the never-built North Holderness Light Railway. I have taken a bit of artistic license with my model. But, I still think it captures the look of the proposed locomotive. The model is designed to fit the Roco HOE 0-6-0 steam locomotive chassis (33241). However, it could be possible to use an alternative chassis as there is ample space inside the body. If you'd like your own these can be bought from either my website >> https://www.mattditch.photography/online-shop-1/009009-narrow-gauge-north-eastern-railway-style-0-6-0t-locomotive-body-kit-holderness Or eBay >> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134766522934?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=BFNBBPTARoq&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=BFNBBPTARoq&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
JaymzHatstand
That's very nice indeed! Something I've spent quite a while looking at drawings of, as I've made my own 'based on' version. The proposed design was certainly a purposeful looking machine, and you've absolutely captured that. I could well be tempted as a stablemate for mine, do you think a Farish 08 chassis would fit? MattDitch
It's been a little while since I posted anything new so to make up for it here are two new 009 models. When I first got into 3D printing several years ago the first locomotive, I ever designed was a freelance Sentinel inspired by the Y3. Over the years that model has gone through a variety of upgrades and modifications. But I now felt it was time to redesign the model. I mainly concentrated my work on giving the model some underframe/axle detail which it previously didn’t have. As for the livery I wanted to try something different to my usual coat of Humbrol “grass green”. So, I took inspiration from the County Donegal Railway’s “Phoenix” and went for a work worn weathered red & cream livery with black lining. MattDitch
For a while now I've been interested in locomotives built by the Sentinel Wagon Works. As I'm sure people have noticed several of my more recent projects have been based on Sentinels as I have found them very enjoyable to research and model. My latest model, pictured below is based on the Y10 which in real life was standard gauge and used on the Wisbech and Upwell tramway before moving to Yarmouth for use on the docks there. I always felt like the design would work as a narrow gauge loco. So, a few weeks back I set about creating my own narrow gauge version. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Now I'm thinking I need to make some tramway style coaches for it to pull, but more on that later. If you'd like your own then the kit can be purchased from the below links. MattDitch
New Model - 009 narrow gauge Mini BR Class 101 body kit. This 3d print is loosely based on the 1st generation British Rail DMU Class 101, with inspiration being taken from David Malton's mini standard gauge locos for 009. This DMU has been scaled to fit in with his other models. The kit contains the following items: 1x DMS (Driving Motor Second) Body 1x DMBS (Driving Motor Brake Second) Body The model is designed to fit 2 of the Kato 11-105 chassis (Not supplied). This model can either work with two powered chassis running together, or you can remove the gearing from one of the chassis to create a trailing coach. I’m selling this model on behalf of the designer, Oliver Kirkby. The pictured models were painted on our behalf by Ben Siddons (Reapints by Ben). All models are supplied unpainted. MattDitch
Over the past several years I've developed a lot of new skills both in how to design models and how to prepare and paint them. I felt like some of my earlier efforts weren't the best representation of these skills. So, over the past couple of months, my attention has been on redesigning a lot of my models. Most of the re-design work is now finished. But now comes the long task of printing and painting those models. The first two models to be finished or should that be re-finished are my Kerr Stuart "Skylark" inspired locos. Up first is one that I've nicknamed "Mauritius". I got the idea for the longer tanks from the preserved Kerr Stuart at Beau Sejour sugar estate in the north of Mauritius. Which, has longer tanks as depicted in my model. And, lastly is a "Skylark" with the more traditional shorter tanks. My plan is to also offer these without tram skirts/ motion covers. For those who'd like to own one these models can be purchased from the below links. kerr Stuart "Mauritius" eBay >> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134906398864?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=BFNBBPTARoq&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=BFNBBPTARoq&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Website >> https://www.mattditch.photography/online-shop-1/mdm01hcdisel009-hxw88-zt8x6 Kerr Stuart "Skylark" eBay >> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134906399286?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=BFNBBPTARoq&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=BFNBBPTARoq&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Website >> https://www.mattditch.photography/online-shop-1/mdm01hcdisel009-hxw88
okirkby
10 hours ago, Dragonfly said: Looks amazing Matt. Placing an order for one shortly. Do you know if the designer has any plans for a centre coach? A 3-car would be really something. Do you mean something that looks something like this? ;) The reason why this hasn't been released publicly yet is that I am yet to find a suitable bogie chassis that can be used under it as a trailing vehicle. At the moment both halves of the 101 require a Kato 105, which means they're both powered and is a little overkill in terms of traction effort. Not only that, by using motorised chassis it futher increases the end user's costs. At the moment this centre car will fit on the 105 chassis like the two driving coaches, and as mentioned above I think it would be rather excessive having 3 motorised chassis on a single unit hence having not yet been released publically. Now if user's were happy having 3 Kato 105 chassis under one unit, then I'm sure there wouldn't be any reason I couldn't release this coach. The other option would be to use a peco N gauge chassis like the Peco NR-122, however there would have to be a compromise as this is a rigid axle / 4 wheeler chassis and not a bogie chassis. For those who may be interested in reducing the power output on the unit I have removed the motor and worm from one of the 105s which has left me with a free wheeling chassis. - I have photos and can explain how this is done for those who would like to know.
RMweb Premium Dragonfly Posted January 25 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 25 That looks wonderful, @okirkby, and I for one would certainly be interested in purchasing one. As for the power conundrum, what you've described is exactly what I'd be doing, removing the drive from one (or two) of the 11-105 units (I've got a few to spare). MattDitch
And now for something a bit different... I was recently asked if I could have a go at making a 009 caricature of the standard gauge Metropolitan Railway "Metro-Vick" Bo-Bo locomotives. I really enjoyed this project and it was nice to have a go at making something different for a change. The kit can be built to run on either the Kato 105 chassis or Kato 109 chassis. Neither chassis is supplied in this kit. MattDitch
It's been a little while since I posted anything new. The last several weeks have been a bit hectic for me and I'm still trying to get back into the right mindset. However, I still plan to release at least one new model a month. MattDitch
I've had a nasty chest infection for the best part of May which has seriously impacted my productivity. However, when I wasn't coughing my guts up I've been working on two new versions of my Kerr Stuart "Skylark" model. These new versions use the popular Bachmann "Peter Sam" chassis giving the models the correct 0-4-2 wheel arrangement. Although most "Skylarks" were outside framed a number were built with inside frames such as "Hawk" which worked at Harbury quarry. MattDitch
"Fairbourne" 009 2-4-2 Tender engine body kit. Last year (where has the time gone?!) I was contacted by Repaints by Ben who asked if I could make a 009 version of the Fairbourne railways 2-4-2 tender locomotives "Katie" & "Sian" to fit the Bachmann N gauge "Percy" chassis. Those of you who know of Sian & Katie will know these are 15” locos so they are more commonly modeled in 09 in the modeling world, but I was asked to design these in 009 scale. In reality, the design is equally adaptable to 09 completely by accident. If you'd like your own these can be purchased from the below links; Website >> https://www.mattditch.photography/online-shop-1/fairbourne-009-2-4-2-tender-engine-body-kit eBay >> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/135089572422?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=BFNBBPTARoq&sssrc=2524149&ssuid=BFNBBPTARoq&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Digital instructions will be supplied to those who purchase the kit. But please make sure you supply an email address to send those to. The instructions and supplied images come courtesy of Repaints By Ben
MattDitch
*New Model* 009 Hunslet tram "Lune" This model is based on Hunslet 1844 of 1936, a Darwin class built for the Australian Commonwealth Carbide Company for their Ida Bay Railway in Tasmania. The loco was delivered with tramway features, including an overall roof and oil trays under the cylinders and motion. I have taken some artistic license with the model by incorporating the oil trays into motion covers/tram skirts to allow the model to run on the readily available Kato 109 chassis. I have further versions of this model planned including one without the overall roof. The model can be bought on either of the below links Website >> https://www.mattditch.photography/online-shop-1/009-hunslet-tram-lune eBay >> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/135218631946?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=BFNBBPTARoq&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=BFNBBPTARoq&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
