Yes, Boulevard du Larvotto/Tunnel Larvotto are on the old alignment. The only major difference is that the nice stone viaducts at St Devote and Portier have been replaced with ugly concrete flyovers. (I discovered the old alignment by accident one day - trying to do a lap of the circuit on Google Street View, somehow it dropped me down on to Bvd Larvotto in the vicinity of the Casino and it was immediately obvious as an old railway cutting. Quite apart from the transporting of the F1 circus across the globe, criss-cross fashion, by dirty big aeroplanes, the crowds that attend every race (before 2020!) use huge amounts of fuel, much of it sitting in queues to get in and out again. I suspect the Men in Red will be getting a little more than fed up with him keep blaming the Car, when Leclerc can stick it into 4th fairly easily. OR, a mega deal paid for by Ferrari getting Sainz in early, and paying for Riccardo to go to McLaren early to get Alfonso into Renault, but giving Sainz a chance to show what he can do in the remaining Races? RJS1977 Posted October 10, 2020 Share Posted October 10, 2020 And whilst it's all very well for an experienced driver in the best car on the grid to say there's no need for as many practice sessions, it's the novice drivers, and the teams who are trying to catch up, who need the practice. And of course, there will always be new circuits like Portimao where everyone will need to learn the circuit. Having fewer practice sessions will lead to less experienced drivers making more mistakes, and potentially more accidents. New to F1 perhaps, but they will already have had experience of most (all?) of the tracks and handled the F1 car in testing for the team before being chosen, not to mention plenty of previous race experience. "Novice" to me would indicate they've no experience at all which simply isn't the case, one time when I prefer the American version "rookie" which doesn't sound quite as bad! Interesting that that "experienced driver in the best car" had rather a good first season in F1 despite his lack of experience... If you're good enough... Friday practice really only benefits teams who have been tweaking their car between races and it will tell them if those tweaks work and if not give them overnight to revert the car to it's previous spec. That is a result of F1 banning testing sessions during the season, logically therefore they should bring back those sessions... To minimise cost and pollution, why not hold all the races in the UK and Europe? It's where all the teams are based. Just an idea, which the management and shareholders at FOM wouldn't even contemplate. They want the revenue from those countries who believe F1 and other international sport events improve their image. On Saturday he had had major tummy trouble and knew he couldn't drive. Multiple Covid tests have proved negative. I hope he can be nursed back to health, because his season has been pretty good. I assume his Mugello crash, caused by a puncture, has not had lingering effects.
