Honda vetoes Alonso/Andretti Indy 500 deal

Not terribly surprising considering Alonso called Honda a "GP2 engine" on their home soil. The Japanese have very long memories...

Wot a hoot! Motor racing is a very small community at the top level, so bad-mouthing a manufacturer is less than clever. Famous for not proving to be a team player, and believing his talent meant he was owed a living, he is 38 and up the creek sans paddle.

Oh I bet he can still afford a few paddles with what they paid him ;)

He certainly has upset Honda and that also means others know he has less options so can haggle down his price, he might have got away with it as his career ascended but it’s rather backfired. Not that you need to feel sorry for him with his bank account ;)

Should think himself lucky to have had those two championships at Renault. Getting beat by the new boy 2/2 in the same equipment in the following two seasons was 'informative'. In retrospect how different it might all have been, had he only been able to agree with Red Bull's management to get into that car which enabled Sebastian Vettel to obtain four championships. And just think what fun it could have been, had those two been on the same team...

Would any F1 team pay the money he would want? Realistically spending much less to develop a young driver who shows potential to be the next hot shot has to be a far better bet.

Don't see why not, the virus is already worldwide, and probably was before it was isolated in Wuhan, with today's international air travel and a virus with a 14 day incubation period putting a place in lockdown is like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. It's something we've just got to accept unless we stop air travel altogether.

:D:rofl_mini: and it could solve the world's population crisis too!

Problem is those that use a disproportionate amount of the worlds resources are those who are most likely to avoid the consequences (us).

And we have set a bad standard to which others now aspire!

You may be surprised.

I have read several times that the worst country for completely disregarding for their carbon footprint is China.

When it comes to car emissions, California has had the most strict regulations for some time.

It seem to be impossible to get sunburn in Bangkok because it is permanently hazy, even though the temperature maintains an average of over 30c. London's skies are much clearer.

But it really isn't worth saying 'why should we bother when others don't'. That type of stalemate does nobody any good.

2 1/2 months away and the virus is already out of China. Run it.

Yes, but it is contained in most places even in China. What is not needed is thousands of F1 fans spreading the coronavirus. What if the Chinese GP went ahead and half of the competitors went down with the disease? I can't think of any quicker way to spread the virus than a large group of people visiting different countries every other week. The nature of the virus is also a consideration with symtoms not showing until two weeks after infection.

And also remember not only the Drivers, but the Entourage of Pit Crew, the Airline Crew after the event, the Hotel Staff and Guests after the event in the next Country, and the Families of all the above and the Media Circus.

With respect no it isn't contained in China. Thousands have already left China and spread the virus and why we are seeing it well beyond China! Taking your argument to it's logical conclusion we'd have stopped all international travel already. More people travel on holidays all over the world than will ever travel to watch or take part in F1 races and many of them have spread it.

As i said before it's already too late, for instance those two people they've picked up in York, how did they get there? Fact is they will have already mixed with many people, possibly hundreds, before they were picked up. Quite frankly it's already too late, the best we can do is hope they find a cure which from the press this morning seems hopeful.

From what I gather from contacts, the outbreak has been far greater than has been admitted and it appears that the numbers now being released are gradually catching up to the truth.

The sensible decision would be to pull the Chinese GP.  After all, there are plenty of other countries with appalling human rights records that could hold an alternative - some of them equally quite rich.
