robmanchester
Hello, Does anybody have a GW Models 6" rail bender ? A few questions if anybody can help me :- a) What rail sizes will it work with ? b) Does it work with BH and FB rail ? I really need it for FB rail. c) Does it keep the rail from twisting when bending ? The latest price list from GW I can find on here lists it at £55 plus £7 postage - anybody know if this is still correct ? Thanks Rob
RMweb Premium decauville1126 Posted December 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 15, 2019 Don't think George does a rail bender, but he does do 2 sizes of roller bender for sheet. I have one, and it doesn't have grooves to guide rail and stop it from twisting. His ads usually appear in model Railway Journal. All his products are excellent. Mike Storey
No, he does advertise a rail bender (6" roller and rail bender), but it seems to be designed for 00/EM/P4 etc finescale rails. No idea whether it will work with other scales. What scale rail are you looking at bending? There are others, especially for the larger scales. RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted December 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 16, 2019 I believe its the standard roller bender with groove(s) in the rollers for slotting rail in. Mike.
hayfield
It is the standard 6" roller, the 12" does not have the groves. I have used code 125 rail, there are 3 groves catering for 1mm & 2 mm webs both allowing for about 2 mm deep
RobjUK
I've not tried it, but would a luthiers fret bender work? eg. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Professional-Fret-Bender-Wire-Bending-Straightening-Luthier-Guitar-Bass-Tools/223706618674 They are cheaper, have the required grooved rollers and are designed to give large, smooth radius bends. I have one (of a different make) but no loose track to test it with.

2mm Andy
There is also the KB Scale rail bender, designed for Peco IL115 flatbottom rail (which I think is Code 82) ; https://shop.narrowplanet.co.uk/collections/kbscale/products/rb01 Andy
