Guest Harborne Railway Society
does anybody possibly have either a kitmaster Pug or Dapol pug that is of no further use but has body intact ? mine has lost several items of bodywork, and i really would like to keep her and restore the body, fleaway wants upwards of £45 plus they only have Hornby versions which are no good to me, and too expensive, i can negotiate on price, but not willing to pay silly money just for a body.....PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN
Nick Holliday
If you are after the Airfix/Dapol kit I suggest you search on Google including the word "kit" as that gives you several options all around the £8.50 mark. I think you are, possibly, confused by the Dapol/Hornby RTR model, hence the higher price.
daltonparva
What's the difference between Dapol and Hornby pugs, 'cos I might have a Hornby one? Do you mean Airfix kit type, not Dapol/Hornby motorised ones? Edited November 11, 2019 by daltonparva
Steamport Southport
For the RTR body. Try Peters Spares. https://www.petersspares.com/Hornby-x82378-pug-body-0-4-0-lms-black-gold-lettering-no-11232.ir Or one without a cab for £4.69 https://www.petersspares.com/Hornby-x8238-pug-body-lms-11232-less-cab-oo-gauge.ir You should be able to get the Kitmaster/Airfix/Dapol plastic kit for about £7 or £8 new. But they won't fit on the RTR chassis. If you need a chimney, Wizard now has them back in stock. https://www.wizardmodels.ltd/shop/locomotive/lyr-pug-chimney-lyrc001/ Jason

knitpick
If you are still having problems - my Dapol Pug instructions state "To lubricate the motor bearings, first remove the cab by gently pressing inwards the sides and back and then lift upwards,"
RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted November 21, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 21, 2019 To try to iron out the confusion about who made what L & Y pugs, Kitmaster originated the plastic construction kit model, which was 'push along' and unpowered. When KM went under Airfix acquired the toolings and took the model into it's own construction kit range. This was in turn acquired along with the rest of the Airfix railway construction kit range by Dapol, who have continued to produce this construction kit and have more recently taken to marketing the range under the Kitmaster branding, full circle. The kit originally sold for 2/-, 10p and now goes for £8.50. Dapol brought out an RTR L & Y pug back in the 80s, and this model has since been produced by Hornby, who have provided an updated and better performing mechanism and chassis. AFAIK it is not currently in production by can be found easily on 'Bay; you need to be sure you are getting the updated mech, though. There is no difference other than the branding between Dapol and early Hornby RTR pugs.
