JAMO
Â Hello everyone, Â My son and me we are building a little shelf layout in HO scale. This layout is destinated to my son. I help him to make it and learn him the skills I know. Â We started in 2016. I made the workbench using light wood parts. Â The first tries: Â The trackplan was choosen My son was only 10 and has screwed all the parts together with my advice. He was very enthusiast. JAMO
We used 10 mm thick foam underneath the track to give enough space for wiring and rods to drive the turnouts. Â My son glued the foamboard. Â Â I've wired the turnouts and glue the track on the foamboard. Â Â 5

RMweb Premium Northroader Posted November 28, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 28, 2019 I like the close up of the track, looking good. Does he have a say in what rolling stock you have?
JAMO
Oh yes: he buys what's he want. And from time to time, I buy him items he likes to help him. I accept and I respect his choices. I'm an end of 50's and 60's fan. He is a 80's fan. No problem.  He likes OO English trains too. Now I like that too! 1

JAMO
Thank you for your kind comments. My son is making good modeling. He is inspired by military modeling. That's very good.
JAMO
A little update: I've began to make a fuel dealer for my son's layout: Â Â Â I'm not sure we keep the steam pump house beside.
JAMO
I've glue some parts of a Walthers kit. My son has painted them with my advice. Â Â 8 1
JAMO
I've saw and adapted this building to the spare space we have on the layout. The Conrail semi truck is an old Athearn kit built and weathered by my son. Â Â Â Â Â 8
DanielB
This is coming together wonderfully, Jack. Your son is making great strides, and it's fantastic how you are supporting him. 1
JAMO
Thank you Dan (and F-UnitMad), I'm glad and proud he makes nice modeling. I learnt him a part (the basics) and he develops himself how to do. I think he has the sense for the weathering and for the scenery. He is patient. So that's good.  Here are photos of his work for scenery and just beside, you can see the new module. The layout is growing! We have decided to put off the bridge at the end of the module to widen the view. I made the woodwork, tracklaying and the electricity (often it's only a 2 wires difficulty). And I let my son to do the scenery. His choice! He loves!      7

JAMO
Hello there, Â News from my son's layout: Â Â Â 15
JAMO
My son has decided to convert his layout to DCC because the sound adds another dimension and life to his layout. I wasn't enthusiastic with sound/noise but now I'm convinced by the realism of sound. Especially with Alcos locomotives. Â A little rough video with the arrival of a new locomotive: a RSD-15 from BLI. Â At the same time, you'll discover the next module after the yard. JAMO
The two first DCC sound locomotives arrived on the layout are Alcos. Â The RSD-15 is an "out of the box" model from BLI. My father has given it to my son. Nice gift, isn't it? Â Â The second one is an old but "as new" Atlas RS-36. I've installed a QSI TitanU sound decoder I had in stock from a long time ago. After a battle against space, I succeeded. Â The "Arkansas & Mississippi" lettering will become "Waynesville Terminal" on another day. Â Â
JAMO
Another locomotive I've given to my son after adding the DCC/Sound decoder. He likes it! Â Â Â Â Â
