RMweb Gold MarshLane Posted October 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 16, 2019 (edited) Interesting little snippet in tonight's Railway Herald magazine that says the prime mover (the engine) for the first Class 69 - 69001 (formerly a Class 56) - has been delivered from EMD to Stoke and that the project is on target to commence testing in May next year - with the first tests being undertaken on a preserved railway. RMweb Gold russ p Posted November 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 I'd have thought class 58s would be better as they are trying to make them similar to 66s

There are two or three (I believe) going through Stoke, all of which require varying degrees of work, and the one to be numbered 69001, will be the first one that is complete and outshopped, rather than a specific donor, as I understand it - that was the last info that a good source at GBRf gave me. RMweb Premium jessy1692 Posted November 10, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 10, 2019 My Dad was down in Stoke last week and took some pics, plenty of 56's down there in various states he says, some have had work done he says. List of locos visable: 56- 128,77,37,60,65,32. 56 128 is aparantly ex booths scrap yard too. 9
RMweb Gold big jim Posted November 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 I was in the shed the other week, the first batch of class 56s that will become 69s are sat inside in primer, nothing changed externally at this early stage, I was hoping to see one with the new cab interior in place but again nothing to see yet 1

I’m quite reliably informed that even though 56128 is ex Booth’s and heavily stripped, it’s body shell is in very good condition because when it was stored on the Nene Valley Railway prior to being sold on, it was largely kept in the tunnel and free from the elements.

I’m sure EMD are just doing the final tweaks before commencing work. Edited November 11, 2019 by jools1959

25901
From the pictures I’ve seen and the rumour machine, the French 58s have been stripped quite a bit by the French Copper Fairies 3

Also those access panels may not be convenient or suitable. Talking of 58s the one that matters that is overseas is 58050 as it is earmarked for the national collection. Not seen anything on its status for a long time.

Apparently they are fitting PBL brakes to the 69 where the 58 already has them. The 66 cab is based on the 58 one even sharing the same windscreens so you would think be a lot less work for them

Do they also get the EMD control stand ? Maybe like in the DVT cabs?
