Lack of imagination, mojo, etc.

Our group made a promise to build a mini-diorama to help with a chum's recovery.

 

We have a willing crew of three but we lack any semblance of imagination despite numerous visits to Carl Arendt scrapbook and Chris Nevard's Blog we are still moribund. There is a maximum size of 1,2x0.6m (although 0.92x0.46m would be easier to fit in the vehicle)  and we intend to recycle an existing scene of a Permanent Way depot from Child Okeford which is just 0.42x0.23m. 

 

Any ideas or sources of a trackplan, please?

A simple Inglenook will give operational interest ( problem solving) once the layout is complete.

 

Scenics could be anything from a goods yard to a wagon works to a heritage railway.

Realistically you can't fit a "real" plan onto that space so you'll need to decide on a gimmick - a shunting puzzle like an inglenook, a tymesaver, a bitsa-station, etc.

 

What about a stone terminal and PW depot? That puts you post 70's and you get your shunting of loads and empties.

 

Gravel shed at the back as part of the inglenook (loads, empties and a cripple track "in real life") and then the PW track/sheds at the front, covering the "headshunt" part of the inglenook?

Hi,

 

Thanks to all, the idea is to take a small piece of Child Okeford onto the exhibition circuit as Child Okeford is very much permanent. Visitors to the layout always seem to comment on the centre piece of the tiny Pemenant Way Depot and transposing it into a diorama seems a logical step. 

 

I aplogise if this image has been seen before but this is the depot on Child Okeford, in addition, one of the local RMwebbers very kindly contributed a Bachmann single loco shed to the mix. The whole shebang should be accessible by wheelchair and it is really a focal point for a bit of banter rather than a serious layout.

Tinner's Forge is about 5'6" long by about 20" wide.

 

The scenic section is about 3'9".

I hadn't really given too much thought to the Inglenook as a candidate for the diorama but its more prototypical appearance and potential as a shunting puzzle are distinct advantages over more contrived plans.
