Andy M
Can anyone please help in identifying the narrow gauge 0-4-0 DM Shunter featured in the images, seen shunting at the Dean Hill Royal Navy Armament Depot during WW2? It appears to have worked there from the opening of the site in 1943 and I thought it looks like a Fowler. The Industrial Railways Society however only list a standard gauge Fowler allocated there, with most of the narrow gauge fleet being Hunslet's. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards, Andy. RMweb Premium petethemole Posted August 25, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 25, 2019 It's a Hunslet 'flameproof' rod-drive 0-4-0 DM designed for the mining industry. One survives (not the same one) at the Almond Valley Light Railway https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=11&ved=2ahUKEwjxw5fN853kAhUhsaQKHfnmC1A4ChAWMAB6BAgEEAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.almondvalley.co.uk%2FDocuments%2F2016RailwayStock.pdf&usg=AOvVaw0STfsRvybVJxMHu_dWru0J 1 1

D Dalton
Those pics of the old Baguleys were taken during the war as you can see the camouflage netting over the magazine entrance! the driver is my friends Dad Percy Dawkins. My friend would love a copy of the picture i worked in Dean Hill in the 90s and drove the Hunslets and Baguleys

Bg3751 60HP ex-Trecwn. Used at Dean Hill for pilot brake conversion to 4 cylinders from 2, plus modified couplers. It had a crunch which bent the frame and broke the front axle. My son bought it and I regauged it and made a new axle, plus rehanging the brakegear and reconfiguring the engine mounts. Still looks the same as when it left Dean Hill apart from replacement coupler blocks from another ex-Trecwn 100HP loco. Pic was taken in 2004 when we collected it after the auction.
RMweb Gold daveyb Posted August 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 21, 2020 I always thought the RNADs would be interesting to work in. I only worked Army ordnance depots... Big and modern with only rail loading in and out not to the sheds. Nesscliff and Upnor were interesting, too

Nesscliff and Upnor were interesting, too By the ‘80s Dean Hill was rather different from the Gosport depots, there were Paveway and WE177 facilities, the latter required armed escorts to/from the depot. It’s relative remote location was both a problem and pleasure, due to lack of affordable accommodation and rural environment. Beyond the east end of the site was a rail connection to US Army Lockerly, a wartime munitions storage facility of the 820th Ordnance Base Depot on a requisitioned estate. Click here for Lockerly The site was completely cleared after the war. StaySafe
