RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted June 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2019 (edited) Started today. Steel rule used to keep the bodyside panels straight during assembly. Note to future builders of this kit: make sure you cut off the correct part of the roof... RMweb Gold Popular Post Darius43 Posted June 23, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 23, 2019 (edited) Coach bodyshells completed and fitted loosely onto the chassis. I fitted a Bachmann DMU motor and bogies to the motor coach chassis, fitting the kit-supplied bogie sideframes to the Bachmann motor and trailing bogies. I used Bachmann Thompson bogies for the driving coaches in place of the kit bogies. Cheers Darius Edited September 17, 2022 by Darius43 17

RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted June 23, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2019 (edited) Hi Darius Edit....cross posted....I hope you haven't glued the MBS roof in place, the pantograph well is above the brake van. The DC kit 3 car isn't quite right. 3 car 305/1 had large windows between the doors, like a 117 DMU. The DC kit has the window arrangement for a 305/2 which was a 4 car set. Now before anyone jumps up and down shouting "The 305/2 were three car sets when they ran on the LMR", very true but then they had been refurbished with gangway connectors, first class was moved into the DTS(L) coach and there was only one loo, the space of the other one was converted to a luggage rack. Thanks Clive. I managed to correct the motor coach before the glue had set too hard. Photos on Google show the units mainly with the large windows but I am building this as best as I can with the bits in the box so it will be a rule 1 LMR unit. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted June 24, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2019 (edited) Underframe equipment boxes etc. added. I bulked out the etched boxes with plasticard and replaced the half relief cylindrical tank with one made from plastic tube and plasticard. Cheers Darius This and your 501 unit are coming on great guns. I must admit the task of adding the door hinges is one I put off and pretend doesn't exist in the hope that it will somehow magically get done while I am not looking! I have a nearly complete class 206 'tadpole' and a disintegrating 4 EPB to finish from DC Kits kits (the EPB suffered a minor fall and the sides separated on one of the coaches).
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted June 25, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 25, 2019 (edited) Roof ventilators and door hinges added to the motor coach. I have lost a couple of vents to the carpet monster so now have just enough to do the remaining coach. Edit. Just noticed that a few hinges have dropped off. They have been replaced - fortunately there are spares aplenty. Cheers Darius Edited September 17, 2022 by Darius43 9 3

Whose door hinges did you use? Hi Geep, I used the DC kits etched hinges as supplied with the kit. Not strictly accurate as the upper and lower hinges should stick out proud of the coach side a bit more to allow the hinge pins to line up vertically. Cheers Darius Ah, i've used the etched MJT ones on previous projects. I might just give the DC Kits ones a go this time round, they look good. I have seen people suggest using turned brass door handles instead, which allows for the vertical alignment, but in 4mm scale, i'm not sure if it would be that noticable.
