Hobby
Surely doing a long bonnet with crumple zone as per original would mean the pedestrian would be less likely to hit the screen, though it would make it rather a long car! At least the MINI and new Fiat 500 looked something like the originals, though a little bloated. In the latest issue of the Rover 200/400 club they've got a picture someone did as a modern homage to the Minor Estate, like that Crapi it looks bloomin' awful! RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted July 12 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 12 (edited) Not to mention the so-called "Mini" Countryman, the current one is 225mm (nearly 9") longer and 50mm (2") wider than my Skoda Yeti! Compared to the original Austin Mini Countryman, it's 1.1 metres (3' 7") longer and 400mm (16") wider. It's also 117mm (4.6") longer and 217mm (over 8") wider than the Austin Maxi. The thing even out-porks the good old Land Crab! None of the above comparisons include mirrors. Edited July 12 by Dunsignalling typo

One thing BMW are poor at is making the most of the volume of the car, wide waists and swept rooflines lead to reduced elbow and headroom, so to get an acceptable level of comfort, the car’s footprint needs to be bigger.
monkeysarefun
I went to the All Ford Day at Sydney Dragway, which as might be expected was All Fords. It seemed like every Mustang owner in Sydney was displaying their car, but down the back there was other stuff too. De Tomaso's. They have a Ford V8 in the back so get to be at the show. Sporty Euro Fords And sporty Australian ones. Its not a car show without utes. To those bewailing the misuse of the Capri name recently, there was an Australian car in the late 80's/early 90's that carried that name. Based on the Mazda 323/Ford Laser underbits it was meant to be a Mazda MX5 competitor and was exported to the US as the Mercury Capri. The base model had a 1.6L motor, the fancier CLubsport had a turbo version. It is not fondly remembered, build quality was poor which affected the otherwise good reputation of Ford Australia at the time, and it also had a low crash test rating. RMweb Premium spamcan61 Posted August 11 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 11 (edited) Had a run over to Cars and Caffeine at The Hut for lunch today, fair selection of fancy cars, mostly fast Fords it seemed. A few photos:- Journey there took a reasonable 1:15 hrs. 3 hours to get back to Spamcan towers, bit of an endurance test! #1 son informs me this focus RS 500 is rather rare. ... and something non Ford. Some more fast Fords with an MG on the end. Edited August 12 by spamcan61

RMweb Gold big jim Posted August 12 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 12 I’ve entered my car into a free car show in Hinkley in September, I’m not sure if it will be accepted as it says it’s for pre 2000 and ‘specialist vehicles’ so I’ve filled out the form as a ‘Modified car’, looking at previous years pics there do seem to be some post 2000 cars and modded vehicles there will have to see if they get back with a yes please or no thanks

They apparently are still trading but I understand on a different site to the Austin rover dealership I also had dealer plates made which were copies of the original ones which I still had Hopefully I'll do the same when I get my sd1

RMweb Gold big jim Posted August 31 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 31 Rare old spot in town yesterday, lotus elan got my car all washed ready for trax in Silverstone tomorrow, hopefully the spoiler will stay put for the track session! It’s been accepted into the Hinkley car show in the performance category but I’m not 100% sure if I can make it now, hoping work can roster me kindly to be able to go but I’ve also asked for the previous evening off to see Frankie Boyle!
Classsix T
Recently sold Dad's R prefix Robin, I wouldn't have given you two hundred for it, but after fees etc on the bay of e it realised £1500. Twentysomething fella bought it to wrap and flog vapes from or something. Driv it from Suffolk to Kent and loves it apparently, so good luck sonny. I'm not against Tamworth's output as regular readers will be aware btw, but that particular one later on gave me nothing but bad vibes to the point I told Dad I wouldn't get in it if he couldn't guarantee me it'd get us home again. I didn't go far in it after that. Once the dust has settled on recent events however, I may well be in a position to fulfil a minor daydream I've held for a while and be in the market for a Reliant Kitten... but we'll see. C6T. RMweb Gold big jim Posted September 1 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 1 (edited) Very photo heavy thread so brace yourselves!! went to trax in Silverstone today, been a long long day, had to set off at 6 to get there before 9 to display the car, the show opened to the public at 10, we were coming off the A43 for 08:30 but it took another 40 minutes to get in, after japfest and out over an hours wait we made sure to set off early and I’m glad we did, got quite a prime spot on the bank next to the track and above the main club area no particular order and descriptions will be vague! this interested me as I’ve just bought one of these roof tents to try out next year, maybe put it on the mini and do the NC500 in it! There weren’t that many minis there (and no Mitsubishi FTOs!) This I thought was a modded Jaguar but the badge said ‘Lister’ one for @Rugd1022 Orion Fiesta Escort Cosworth This was a bit of beast, Ford raptor with hydraulic suspension Nova GTE Escort and chopper Supra copen Be still my beating heart!!! Saab We then watched the Dirft kings Ariel atom, this was on the same track session as us and boy did it fly! K-van Dom went in a ‘Drift taxi’ which he really enjoyed Rx7 Capri Escort convertible Cappuccino minis We went on the final track session of the day, turned out there was a McLaren on the same session too then another showed up Lots of Asian guys in black BMWs, looked like small heath highway in the evening! we got a couple of free cleaning kits too as they had some left at the end of the day and they gave us them as we were waiting to go on the track most interesting in the way back home was an MG X-power on the M6 toll road, think @russ p would have enjoyed seeing that in the wild! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_XPower_SV Edited September 1 by big jim 9

RMweb Gold big jim Posted September 10 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 10 Decided to sell the cx7 as it’s going to need work for the mot in November, certainly will need a front calliper (or two), rear parking brake pads, and annoyingly a rear wheel bearing despite it having 2 done less than 2 months ago, one has failed already, but they were cheap eBay jobbies bought a BMW X3 Instead for £1200, 10 months test on it, hopefully won’t need too much doing to it, there are no advisories on the current or previous 4 MOT and the only ones prior to that were for tyres Got to have a trip over to bury st Edmund’s to collect it tomorrow afternoon
RMweb Gold big jim Posted September 15 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 15 (edited) Hinckley car show today, took the mini along to display, a really good day out (the Bachmann shop was open but i resisted spending any money!) these are the modern vehicles, the old stuff I’ve posted in the relevant thread forgot to take a photo of the car but this is a Renault alpine V6 engine this was something else, owner by the bloke behind who is the only owner, 6500 miles on the clock and everything original again forgot to get a pic of the car but this is an immaculate MR2 W10 Touareg! RMweb Gold big jim Posted September 16 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16 (edited) I’m not into ‘detailing’ cars, they are lucky if they get a wash with me but this afternoon I cleaned my wife’s new car as it was bought in need of a deep clean, when I went to Silverstone the other week I was given a couple of mcguires cleaning kits with wash, micro fibre cloths and clay bar spray so I thought I’d give them a go and I’ve got to say I’m very impressed, certainly some what better than the Poundland rubbish in normally buy, the car has come out really well, the wash didn’t lather up when putting it on but the water just beaded off once sponged with a mitt and when I dried it with the cloths there were no streaks, as I say the kit was free but there are about £70 worth of stuff in it, certainly a case of who get what you (don’t) pay for filthy water from the cloths my lad insisted on doing rhe cx7 too despite it being for sale on eBay for repair, tbh I’m gutted about how good it looks as it will be a shame to see it go! going to do Dom’s new mini next as that’s black and it should look good properly polished up, he’s had it a couple of days now and despite him losing his beloved BMW he’s actually quite enjoying using it as it saving him a fortune in fuel and he says it handles better Edited September 16 by big jim

Fantastic that there's folks out there that are diverse in their passion in terms of model and make. I used to be of the opinion that there wasn't enough of a car culture to save cars that I had an affinity to but I can see I don't necessarily need to do it, there are plenty out there with as much enthusiasm and deeper pockets! Particularly interested in this one: I've not got my readers on, Rover 400 Tourer? Love what they've done! C6T.
Classsix T
Anyone seen the current Hatchette magazine build adverts (UK)? Build your own 1:8 Ford Falcon. It is a carbon copy of the black Mad Max V8 Interceptor but because we can't be arsed to pay the licence we ABSOLUTELY WON'T BE MENTIONING MAD MAX in this advert! As per usual with these things, the complete part work kit will set you back around £2000 for the complete kit. I'll pass...C6T.
