RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted August 24, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 24, 2021 Driving my mum back from having the cast taken off her arm yesterday, I was followed for some miles by a small blue car I couldn't identify, and it's driving me up the wall. It had a W reg, so 2000-ish? Bumper with air intake below it shaped not unlike the original Lotus Elan. Sloping top with flush tear-drop twin headlamps (wider at the top) , the outer pair being larger than the inner. Small round badge in the middle. I'm guessing it is an obscure (possibly Korean?) import that didn't make it to the UK in great numbers. Is my description enough for anybody to enlighten me as to what it was, ideally with a pic that I can use to confirm. Thanks John
RMweb Gold big jim Posted August 24, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 24, 2021 (edited) Hyundai coupe? Daihatsu copen? But I think they were 2002 onward as we had one of the first one on a 53 plate Edited August 24, 2021 by big jim

No, smaller and less "swoopy" the top bit was a flattish bevel, a bit like the old Vauxhall Chevette shape and the four lamp glasses were really flush with the panel, no air intake above the bumper. The circular badge was light coloured with a darker bit in the middle. Whole thing was about the size of a Peugeot 206. I have a gut feeling I've seen one before but just can't place it.... Dennis EDIT: actually looking at google maps and street view it appears it is open as a garage of some description, street view shows a few rovers and classic minis in the car park (if you view from the side street) the red rover is parked in the same position on there too Edited August 24, 2021 by big jim

My stepfather has a 1.3 Sirion on a 57-plate. Surprisingly nice to drive and will go a bit if suitably provoked! Again, not what I'm looking for - the nearest I can get to the overall shape of the front is probably a Chevette, but it was really the headlights that grabbed my attention. Twin, absolutely no curvature other than slightly rounded corners, fully flush and sloping along with the panel. If you imagine two pairs of vertical slots in the panel, the outer ones (dip) larger than the inner (main beam) . They are set inboard from the corners of the car (where I'm presuming the indicators are located). The slots are wider at the top / narrower at the bottom rather than truly rectangular, and glazed over, that was about it. I'm hoping the thing is local and I one day come across it parked!!!! I mentioned it was a W-reg assuming c2000, but the W might have been the other end which would make it 1980. Sorry about that, but why make do with one wild goose chase when you can have two? I spent a good hour yesterday evening googling "hatchback" in association with various other words, countries, and decades, but didn't find anything remotely like it. On reflection, it was most of the evening, but sorry anyway! One thing I have learned though is that few old-car websites seem much interested in the cheaper/slower end of the market, whatever the level of rarity....
