monkeysarefun
Kerry Packer’s Jaguar XJS up for sale No reserve for late media mogul’s modified biturbo 7.0-litre V12 GT, but it’ll go for big bucks… Bidding for the late Kerry Packer’s modified 1977 Jaguar XJS has officially kicked off at just $1 and no reserve. But when the hammer drops tomorrow, July 31, Lloyds Auctions is expecting the worked Jag to go for a six-figure sum. At the time of writing, the highest bid sat at $72,000, but it was rising… The significance of this particular Jaguar XJS, as the story goes, is the result of a late-1970s ‘horsepower war’ between media mogul Kerry Packer and radio announcer John Laws. Today it’s restored with a black duco finish, however in 1979 Packer is said to have taken his XJS – which was then cloaked in factory-issue British Racing Green – to Oran Park Raceway west of Sydney at the behest of trucking magnate Lindsay Fox for a few laps with racing driver Kevin Bartlett. "After a few laps and terse conversation, KP took the wheel, with KB offering to remove himself if he didn’t start listening to his directions,” Lloyds said in its notes on the auction lot. “From there, the bond between them grew and Packer asked: ‘So now how do we make it actually go?’” Packer subsequently commissioned Rymec to add a pair of turbochargers to the factory 5.3-litre V12, which allowed the fettled XJS to produce 1200bhp (895kW) at 30psi. But, the story continues, “removing the EFI [electronic fuel injection] and computer management and replacing them with SU carburettors made the car either undrivable or caused it to break driveline components every step of the way”. “Eventually reason prevailed and the auto was ditched for the Getrag five-speed, Detroit locker, and the EFI was reinstated after many small fires, broken parts and mishaps,” said Lloyds. “A fire at the Rymec premises gutted the car, which was then purchased by Gary Walker, son of Roly Walker Jaguar spares who were familiar with the Jag as they had supplied many of the parts. They then rebuilt it from the ground up, no expense spared, recommissioning it in black duco and tuned to a much more useable 740bhp (560kW) although still capable of 1000hp (746kW) on race slicks and gentle application of the immense power. “This car was used as the test bed for the Roly Walker-built Gary Wilmington Group A XJS to see what would break as the street car didn’t have to follow Group A homologation requirements. “The car was built with a 320km/h top speed, 11.0sec standing 400m time and an incredible fifth gear 30km/h to 250km/h acceleration capability without a stutter or gulp. Previously only rumoured to exist, this mythical beast is now for sale and represents a feat of power and engineering refined over years to build/rebuild a legendary Jaguar supercar.” If you’re interested in what Lloyds describes as a car that’s “truly one of a kind with many stories to tell”, you can bid in person or online. Meanwhile, bidding for a rare 1990 HSV VN SS Group A SV (build number 002) is currently at $341,000, while Glenn Seton’s 1997 championship-winning Ford Falcon EL is at $206,000. (The Jag went for 271k...)

Kickstart
Hiya Biggest problem with the 80s and early 90s Maseratis is the fuse box. Rest of the electrics are not bad. Standard fuse box contains several flexible PCBs. These are difficult to separate , and the connections to the terminals are not great. An Italian company is now making replacement fuse box internals! Further, using blade fuses rather than “ceramic” fuses. We ordered one last week which has now arrived , so I assembled it into the spare fuse boxes container tonight. Went together easily. All the best Katy Edited August 5, 2021 by Kickstart 6

monkeysarefun
Speaking of turbos, I was thinking today about a bloke here who became a bit of an online legend about 2007 due to his endless posts about his awesome Mitsubishi Cordia turbo. There was much debate about whether he was genuine or just a clever p1sstake, bit turned out that he was actually for real. Here's the post that first brought him to attention. He hasn't been heard of for several years, but hopefully he's still out there on the highway somewhere because in times like these we could do with a rogercordia. Hello everyone: My name is Rogercordia im also known as the CordiaKing and Kingcordia, reason being is that im a cordia turbo specialist and i can do things with eyes closed. Im a self confessed cordia turbo freak and basically i have accomplished many things that other cordia turbo's cant do. I had two cordias but recently i sold one of them so that leaves me with one cordia which i have now but i wouldve had two if i havent sold the other one. So in general ill be talking about the cordia that i have now besides the one i had before which i already sold. This red cordia turbo of mine is seriously quick, i have whooped many high performance street and drag cars, just recently i made rotary driver ashamed of himself, story comming later. My red cordia is 2 litre power, has 4 cylinders and is a cyclone dash turbo engine, before the engine rebuild the specs were as follows > factory internal engine factory turbo factory ignition factory fuel, factory spark plugs factory clutch UNIQUE INTERCOOLER SETUP that no other cordia has ever done before tx5 intercooler type 1 bov Its done at best 13.733 seconds down the quater mile with no traction in 1st or second gear and this was done at 17 psi only. No can you just imagine what the car would do if it did have traction, basically i was running 215's deflated to 10 psi. MY NEW SPECS >? Race ported polished head Forged Je forged pistons no balance shafts hd exedyclutch 3 inch mandrel bent zorst system 20 psi boost ZEX WET NITROUS KIT METHANOL INJECTION 235 race tyres in the front So you see, its gonna perform so quick, im expecting the car to do low 11's with the setup that its right now, its so powerfull that when i boost my car, my front end almost lifts from the ground, it just body rolls like you couldnt believe. cars that i have recently whooped sideways > Nissan Pulsar ca18turbo Nissan pulasr sss hatch Toyota Supra Turbo Nissan 300zx Series 6 rx7 Honda NSX 180sx 200sx silvia VL turbo wrx vx clubsport vu v8 ute VR4 powerd cordias lancer evo lookalike with evo 3 engine galant vr4 This is just to name a few, cos i have lost count, if i raced for slips every time i whooped a high [performance car, i would need a carpark the size of the airport in sydney, now if you ask me , thats aloot of cars, well guess what, my 22 year old car can do this. I get alot of jelous haters of my car cos they cant do times like mine did with the basic mods it has, for example i can whoop $40,000 + cars up, i whooped recently a Honda nsx, can youse do this. The toyota supra i raced wasnt that good to keep up with me, i was torque steering all over the place wheelspinning and moving sideways, the supra driver backed of as he saw that he had no hope of catching up to me, it was a turbo supra wiith the basic hardware. the Series 6 RX7 was a little to easy for me cos i ha d him by half a car lenght all the way to 170kms /houre in a 60 zone we were in, just near a quiet off street area, still at these speeds, he had no chance of even comming close to getting even with me. I have attended many drag racing meeets, circuit racing, and i have accomplished many winning feits on the road and at the drags, i put lots iof people tio shame, i have many disbelievers and haters, cos its just they are all jelous wiotyh what my cordia can do, a FWD cordia. Check out the pics i will post up of my car in serious action ALSO visit my website and youtube profile for more action based videos. Seeing that i cained a series 6, whats next, i need some competition Ive got so many disbelivers about my cordia, cos they cant hack it that it goes this quick, ive whooped a whole bunch of people and basically thay cant bare listen to my accomplishments, something they couldnt even manage. Here are some videos about my cordia, check em out
