Who will replace Grosjean after the summer break?

Vettel. He seems to be seeing more bumps than the bloke at the fair who hangs off the back of dodgem cars...

Interesting commentary liking Vettel to the twilight of Schumacher's career where it seemed other drivers were brake testing him, until they worked out the common denominator.

F1 fragility seems very patchy. I mean, that was a big impact and both cars went off at high speed and spun in the kitty-litter - but both finished the race. Other cars sometimes seem to fall to bits if you sneeze near them.

I'm really glad Verstappen still managed to finish in the points but after the race he did day his seat had broken loose in the impact and it was sliding as he went round bends!

I don't like the new pits at Silverstone because they look like they were designed by a retentive committee with Lean and Health & Safety fascinations, but what is it with the preparation of the venue...? My neighbours lawn looks better than the grass on the pit wall and it has a Ford Escort sat in the middle. Or is it because they've been painting it green but dared not go near the edge....? It's starting to look like the Indian GP venue when new...

A bit like the curate's egg. Some great wheel to wheel racing, the Safety Car badly affected some drivers results,  DC getting a bit annoyed (rightly) with Eddie Jordan's predictions.

I reckon that the summer break can't come too soon for Seb! He will be glad to get the first half of the season out of the way. Certainly seems to be on a downward spiral.

Great racing from Charles and Max. Pierre Gasly surprised me as well. Seems to be getting more confident in the car.

Great racing from the two Mercs as well. Good result, but perhaps a little fortunate for Lewis on timing of safety car. A token point for fastest lap was impressive. He does seem to get better tyre wear than Val as well.

What a great Race, loads of good results for all the right People.

Lewis, = Win, = LIKE = O.K. I am biased.

Leclerc 3rd, LIKE = and well deserved after Team Tyre co*k up yesterday.

Vestappen / Leclerc battle, = LIKE, more of the same PLEASE.

Gasley = I take back what I said last week, a well deserved 4th this weekend.

Bottas, = Unlucky, but I still think Lewis would have won as he had to do the 2nd Tyre Stop.

Sainz / Ricciardo. = Great battle to the  end, but a question, how does Carlos find a Helmet big enough to go over all that HAIR?

Norris, = Unlucky with the Tyres.

VETTEL = NO COMMENT, other than to say I thought he would retire at the  end of last year. Now he has ruined his legacy of being one of the Greats. Will he continue beyond the Summer break? Well for me, a lot will depend on his result in Germany. I think if he fails to get a Podium, or is beaten fair and square by Leclerc, he will say enough is enough.

Eddie J, thought Vettel would go to Merc next year, my question is, Would anyone want to take him on if all he does is crash cars?

Possibly 2 seats up for grabs after the Summer break, Grosjean and Vettel.

Can’t see Merc setting up the conflict by bringing in Vettel. Bottas fits, does the job and until they want the next Hamilton I reckon he’s fairly safe unless Nico H was after it and Merc liked the idea of home grown talent there. It strikes me Toto has enough nous to argue that to his liking.

Interesting interview with Toto and Gareth, well the full version yesterday was ;)

I don't think Nico H would be in the running, considering he has never had a podium, more likely to be Esterban Ocon or young Lando or taking a BIG gamble with George Russel, who on paper is quicker than Lando.

EJ also vociferous that LH will go to Ferrari in 2021 to end his F1 career and that McLaren will shortly announce they will be using Mercedes engines. He announced that DCV will be the next president of the BRDC, rather, I thought, to DC's annoyance that he had spilt the beans. Did he also say that SV will be going to Merc?, I started to lose track of his predictions; perhaps he should change his name to Mystic Eddie.

Don't like the current penalty system

Verstappen tail ended by Vettel, Verstappen loses places/points. Vettel gets 10 seconds and doesn't lose anything more than what he had already done himself.

Maybe the penalty should be carried over to the next race?

You can't be sure that the perpetrator of the incident will end up, as SV did, significantly behind the victim. So despite of where Vettel was after his pitstop to replace the front end, they had to give him a "standard" penalty.

What could you do to compensate the innocent party, knock 10 seconds off his race time, tell everyone ahead else to let him past back to his pre-incident position and then adjust his race time to allow for damage to his car, or something else? So while the system is far from perfect, it is what it is, until the FIA come up with something better (which won't satisfy everyone, ether). Carrying that penalty over to the next race would seem like a sensible option, but I am sure Ferrari would veto such a a change to the regulations, as it wouldn't seem to be in their favour at present.

A good race. Why would LH go to Ferrari? I can't see Ferrari winning a Championship until Mercedes call it a day.

Well yes, it's one of EJ's off the wall predictions, but you never know, if Lewis is ready to retire and Ferrari offer stupid money and a halfway competitive car I could see him being tempted to do a valedictory season in the Prancing Horse.....

Its an exclusive club being a Ferrari driver .Books will be written about you (or at least give you a passing mention ) long after Mercedes are forgotten.Ferrari has a magic that the others just dont have .They have always been there apart from a few pouts .They havnt parachuted in to win the World Championship  X number of times then go  or built a factory in the UK or have their entire car designed and built in the UK  though it will poach anyone they can get their hands on .Ferrari is a club of one and it would  give Hamilton enduring glory points ...if he wins .Of course if he looses he is a dumb worn out Brit .

That anyone can   be"parachuted in" and  defeat them, as you put it" and defeat them on a regular basis (Red Bull and now Mercedes) perhaps gives the lie to their superiority. Likewise fledgling F1 teams such as Cooper, Lotus, Tyrell, Williams and McLaren took them on and won. Their best recent years were when they had other than native talent running the team and in recent years their performance hasn't justified their "special" status, payments or veto rights. Unless, of course, you are a Ferrari fan.

How come Mercedes are already talking about quitting .Most of the teams you have mentioned are long gone.Ferrari isnt .I  am not a great fan  but when I attended the F1 tyre tests at Silverstone there was always a great buzz in the paddock and outside.Like I said they will poach anyone they think will help them win .A  British friend of mine was  an intinerant  race engine builder (TOMS ,Hart ,Ilmor,Toyota ) and he washed up at Ferrari .He never talked about it .Just had a faraway look of horror ..... and a very expensive BMW  and an Italian accent .

Weren't Mercedes around racing cars successfully before Ferrari was even born?

Also they've been far more successful in the years that they've raced. The marque has got a decent reputation as well...

I'm not sure he needs to switch to Ferrari simply to get some kudos. Mercedes reputation in motor racing is as good.

Hmmm would Hamilton go just to drive a Ferrari? It kinda fits with him taking a risk but would he do it now he has the chance of exceeding Schumacher? The freedom to do his own thing in jetting around that he has at Merc probably wouldn’t be there with the control demanded by Ferrari.

I suppose it depends whether he thinks he could lift that little bit more out of the Ferrari to still remain a title contender ;)
