GWR suburban coach numbering

Yes - it’s the set number. As far as I know the actual coach numbers in gold on the side were consecutive numbers in permanently coupled B set pairs.

A word of caution here.  When the B sets were built they took vacant numbers but not necessarily blocks of them.

...... and another word of caution, if I may ............ while Hornby Dublo called their non-gangwayed stock 'Suburban' they were, of course, not necessarily used in the suburbs - but the name seems to have stuck among the modelling fraternity ................. the 'B' sets, in particular, were very much rural branch line fare.

Pedant Mode : OFF ( temporarily at least )
