EddieB
Follow the links from here: http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/europe.htm#Cyprus Perhaps worth sending an update (and posting here), as most of those reports are getting a bit dated! RMweb Premium Andy Hayter Posted October 4, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 4, 2018 When I was there many years ago, there were a few isolated bits and pieces on the Turkish side. I am not up to date on the possibilities for crossing the border but when I was there it was not possible.
009 micro modeller
From what I've read about Cyprus, I get the impression most of the remains, particularly locos, are from the mine railways rather than the government railway. Are any of these still there?
brack
Loco no.1 from the CGR survives, and I think a bogie van/coach and a few buildings. Much of the mines stuff that survives is on heavily contaminated land.
jcm@gwr
There is a recently opened museum, which I'm sure is in the Greek sector. There is a very comprehensive book (more of a tome really!), written by Mike Radford. It has been been translated and reprinted in at least four different languages, and was considered to be important, and relevant, enough to be included in the Cypriot 6th Form curriculum. He was also instrumental in helping set up the museum. spikeyfaz
I'm currently attempting a scratchbuild of Baldwin Mining engine number 4 as used and now abandoned by the Cyprus Mining Company. If there's anything still left of this engine I'd love to see some pictures if you get a chance to go there for a visit. Mike
Mark Saunders
There are the drawings of the 35 ton bogie hoppers used by Cyprus Mines Corporation are in the Charles Roberts drawing collection in the NRM at York! spikeyfaz
There are photos of this locomotive in the Middlton Press book on the Cyprus Railways. Would you be able to let me know what the quality of the pictures is like. I'd be tempted to get this book but only if the pictures are sufficiently detailed. I can't find the book for less than £15:00, so it would be handy to know if it's going to help me . Cheers Mike

The only thing against them is that most of the industrial line ones were taken after abandonment.

I am not up to date on the possibilities for crossing the border but when I was there it was not possible. There is absolutely no problem whatsoever crossing the border. I have done it several times in the past few months as we are living in the North (Turkish side) and travel across to the South to Larnaca airport to collect and drop off visitors. As you come back into the North on the right hand side of the dual carriageway there is a yellow shunter preserved and on show on a hill which I assume was from a mine. I am always driving but next time I will try and get my good lady to get a piccie.

Here's a picture of my Baldwin in embryonic stage. The sidetank is a cardboard mock-up to help try and get the proportions right. It's based around an LGB G-scale loco. spikeyfaz
Oh, and the domes are just plonked on, hence their somewhat dodgy alignment! Hopefully all will be straight in due course. Cheers Mike

spikeyfaz
An interesting resource here - https://www.narrow-gauge.co.uk/gallery/52 I think I've seen those before, but thank you for taking the time and trouble to have a look for me. My model is intended to capture the spirit of the real thing as I'm working to a different gauge. So my model is never going to be all that acccurate. Probably best not to try and photograph that as they are not keen on photographs of anything behind barbed wire especially the deserted area Varosha where all the hotels and houses have been shelled ! This is from a third railway that operated in Cyprus, another mineral line that operated in and around Vasilikos on the south coast of the island. A surprising fact is that despite having the same 2' 6" gauge and running alongside each other for several miles the Government railway and the CMC never had a connection.
