KeithMacdonald
I've just noticed an old Bachmann SceneCraft building (Bachmann 44-0046 Corner Store "Wrights Groceries" OO Gauge) Blow me if it isn't the spitting image of Ronnie Baker's "Arkwright" corner shop as much loved in Open All Hours. The model: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/44-0046-Scenecraft-OO-HO-Gauge-Corner-Store-/262250461051 The real thing: http://flickrhivemind.net/Tags/stillopenallhours/Interesting G-G-Granville, just fetch me my paintbrush, so I can fix the name on the sign ;-)

KeithMacdonald
Now I'm trying to match the typefaces in the "real" shop's sign about the door. "Groceries" and "Provisions" are a san-serif typeface, something like Trebuchet. "Arkwright" looks almost like Algerian (but not quite) Hmm .... G-G-Granville, get your Letraset catalogue and let's do this properly...

Steamport Southport
I remember reading an article about the shop in one of the quality papers. It had been a hairdressers since at least the 1960s and was up for sale. It was even stated that it was planned for demolition by property developers. It was purchased as a going concern and is still a hairdressers and beauty parlour. Jason
BernardTPM
Maybe not Arkwright, but could this be the older Granville? Still Open All hours.

Jason The frontage you see on't telly is just a sham, cleverly hiding the modern shop front behind ....... presumably camera angles have to be chosen carefully !. RMweb Premium Steven B Posted September 26, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2018 (edited) The location of the real shop, Lister Avenue in Doncaster, is only five minutes from Doncaster Race course; I stopped off on my way home from Doncaster show in 2015: I wonder if they'll do Uncle Wainleft's shop next... stewartingram
That Chatteris shop is actually a derelict one, which alocal society painted to brighten it up. Weathered a bit now though, been done a few years. Stewart
